Hi Guys,

Shanga is doing ok. You know I found a dental vet for him and he said Shanga needed to get full mouth extraction.
I know he was right because steroids and antibiotics didnt work on Shanga... Even they did work it was just a short while...
I am still trying to find a cure before he gets surgery and as you said I called to Dallas Dental Clinic for that stomatitis coctail.
Sadly they dont send it another country and they dont claim it will work on every case.
I give him metacam since 10 days for pain relief and I put him on propolis... I started to brush his teeth (its too hard but he will have to get used )and chlorexidine twice a day.
Last night I checked his mouth and gums and in his mouth seem so much better.
Actually and thankfully his mouth wounds never seemed too bad as the stomatitis pics on the internet... Maybe thats why I am still trying....
I just wanna try everything before the surgery...
So please let me know if you know something new with stomatitis...

Shanga's numbers look great! In fact, they are wonderful. You are clearly doing something right. I would like to suggest that you get a test or two at night. You're seeing AMPS numbers that are under 100. It would be good to know where Shanga's numbers are during the PM cycle.

Shanga is on a tiny bit of insulin. If his mouth is as bad as you've indicated, I'm surprised that his numbers look this good. I do have a thought. If you are able to get digital X-rays of his mouth, would you be willing to send them to the people at the Dallas clinic or get a consultation from someone at a vet school that specialized in feline dentistry. A full mouth extraction is a big procedure if Shanga has never had any dental work done. A second opinion would be a very reasonable option. If the dentist you saw did not take x-rays, I'd be concerned about the recommendation. You might want to take a look at this information that my vet has on their website about what to look for with dental services. Their recent newsletter also had information on dental disease along with what an x-ray looks like.

I have no advice. I just wanted to say hi. You are doing a great job keeping Sahnga's BGs in a good range.

Shangas numbers look beautiful. I agree with Sienne - good idea to get another opnion and get x-rays.

I want to mention one other concern. In the US, Metacam has been given a "black box" warning for it's use in cats by the Federal Drug Administration. This is the strongest warning that the government can issue. Metacam has been associated with acute renal failure in cats. At least one of the members here cat nearly died due to kidney failure resulting from Metacam and she was very active in the campaign to get this warning placed. I don't know if this information has made it's way to your country. I won't permit my vet to use Metacam with my cats. You may want to discuss an alternative pain medication with your vet.

Hello Sienne,

I agree with you to check his BG at the night time. I made him tired of all the medicines and everything so i hardly check his BG lately at the night time. But I am gonna start again.
You know we have no dental vet here. So its really hard situation to deal with.
All I know Shanga has stomatitis and all the vets I went here gave him steroids and antibiotics and plus diabetes...
and I found a vet who wants to be dental specialist. He knows a lot. But as you asked he didnt get shangas x-ray yet.
Im gonna ask for that then see what happens....

Shanga's blood glucose numbers are looking so good at such a low dose of Lantus. Makes me wonder if Shanga really has stomatitis. Or maybe, Hande, your treatments for Shanga's mouth are really reducing the infection/inflammation?

You've mentioned that finding experienced dental vets is difficult in your area, Hande. I like Sienne's suggestion: "If you are able to get digital X-rays of his mouth, would you be willing to send them to the people at the Dallas clinic or get a consultation from someone at a vet school that specialized in feline dentistry." I know you're doing everything possible to avoid a full mouth dental extraction for Shanga, and we're all right with you if there's anything else that can be done. That's such an extreme, although sometimes necessary, procedure if there's another option available. I think a second opinion through consultation with veterinary dental specialists in the United States could help you make the best decision for Shanga, Hande.

Shanga's mouth seems so much better right now, he is more playful and seems happy... I was thinking about Metacam worked on him but Sienne warned me about it... So I will have to find another safe painkiller for Shanga...

And A friend of mine needs help...
long haird nutered cat five years old seems to be retaining urine between legs very whiffy and strong ...
went to vet but vet said there is no sign for infection...
It get worse during wet weather
summer months no signs at all...

What do you think guys?

With long hair cats, sometimes when they urinate, their fur may get into the litter. Does the cat stay indoors all the time or does the cat go outdoors in the warmer months? Also, is the litter box clean?

Many people here use buprenorphine or tramadol for pain management with their cats. These are both narcotics/opiates, though. Metacam is an anti-inflammatory drug. Unfortunately, there is no non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug that is currently recommended for longer term use in cats.

He goes outside whenever he wants and back home...
He uses the garden as a toilet so its impossible to check... But Im gonna ask tomorrow...

I quit the metacam tonight and i will try to find buprenorphine...
The vet told me that using that until the surgery... But I dont think I will let the surgery at the moment.
I will ask for x-rays then im gonna send to results everywhere...
I dont know... Its very hard here... limited sources... im just so tired...
