12/08 - Big Boy - unsure whether to shoot

I'm very new and two nights ago we had really low numbers for Big Boy, which scared me. We reduced his insulin yesterday to 2.25 and now this morning preshot he is lower than normal. Could you look at my SS and let me know whether you think it's safe to shoot 2.25 this morning? I can have my mom come at +5 to check on him. Spreadsheet is a work in progress as I am just getting to entering historicla data.

AMPS prior to eating 300 - 30 minutes after eating 277 - 60 minutes after eating 225

Ate 1/2 can fancy feast

Stalling without food is the thing to do. I’m going to look at your spreadsheet and will get back.

Will you be able to monitor and do you have high. Debris and honey it Karo if needed? If do find the BG is over 200 you can shoot. Get another test now and post the results.

Welcome Jasmin and Big Boy. You couldn't have found a better group to join .
Great job setting up your signature and SS already.
Can you add to your signature what low carb wet food you are feeding :cat:
Always aim for the sweet spot warm the ears up first, you can put rice in a sock and put it in the microwave, test it on the inside of your wrist to be sure it's not to hot, like you would test a babies bottle. You can fill a pill bottle with warm water and roll it on the ears also.Just keep rubbing the ears with your fingers to warm them up

6. As the ears get used to bleeding and grow more capilares, it gets easier to get the amount of blood you need on the first try. If he won’t stand still, you can get the blood onto a clean finger nail and test from there.
When you do get some blood you can try milking the ear.
Get you finger and gently push up toward the blood , more will appear
You will put the cotton round behind his ear in case you poke your finger, after you are done testing you will fold the cotton round over his ear to stop the bleeding , press gently for about 10 or 20 seconds until it stops
Get 26 or 28 gauge lancets
A lot of us use the lancets to test freehand not the lancing device
I find it better to see where I'm aiming
Look at the lancet under a light and you will see one side is curved upward, that's the side you want to poke with

Thank you for the information. I have added the low carb food he's on in my signature: Fancy Feast Pate and Nulo Pate

Here is a quick update on his numbers. I am again influx on whether to shoot this evening, which should be happening now.

AMPS 257, +1 180, +2 263, +3 239, +4 128, +6 218, +7 268, +9 148, +11 157, and now 135.

This is the lowest he's been preshot, which is even lower than this morning. Do you think it's safe to shoot?

Hoping Kona rises as well. I can't believe how stressful this whole thing is. Wanting to do the best for my baby and at the same time scared it will be too much and cause more damage. Such a fine balancing act. Thanks for your help and supoort.

I’m seeing a 52. Feed a teaspoon or two of mc (10-15%) and check in 30-45 minutes.
Thank you. I did feed him som MC food and his numbers came up. His sensor broke at the same time, and I finally in a panic managed to get an ear prick reading. Phew! So happy I know that I can start getting manual readings in the future. He has bounced since the lows of Friday night. Hoping he will start leveling off soon.
