Good morning,

Here's yesterday:

Today is Cabergoline #11. Eddie is also getting Entero-Aid (prescription 2ml BiD) to aid with diarrhea control. So, he gets this in addition to Metamucil and probiotics. Phew. Hoping this works. Otherwise, we'll have to see what's up with chronic diarrhea. I did notice, however, there Eddie did produce an actual poop-shaped poop in the kittybox this morning (he had the Entero-Aid for the first time yesterday).

Ok, so, Thursday it is! Have a good one everyone. :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat::cat::cat::):):)

Do you have a question? If not, please remove it from the subject prefix.

Hope Eddie continues to get more solid results.

@Wendy&Neko So, possibly another bounce but I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the Entero AID + GT. While it is a prescirbed medication and intended "to support and maintain healthy gut and bowel function, including normal stool quality and frequency" etc. one of the active ingredients is Dextrose, 160mg/ml (also NaCL 30mg/ml so may account for H2O retention, but anyway), meaning that if Eddie gets 2ml he's getting 320mg Dextrose, which we know is used to treat very low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), so by wanting to treat diarrhea, the medication is working against the DM. Is this your understanding?

Such complexity. I was doing research on how to manage chronic diarrhea and that is a challenge in itself:

1. https://www.dvm360.com/view/how-manage-feline-chronic-diarrhea-part-i-diagnosis
2. https://www.dvm360.com/view/how-manage-feline-chronic-diarrhea-part-ii-treatment

I'm hoping we don't need to go this route (links)...

I suspect this might not be chronic diarrhea, but rather a reaction to the cabergoline. Which hopefully will go away after a while. The RVC study, and one cat here, had to stop cabergoline because their cats did not get over it. All the rest did.

Having said the above, GI issues seem to be more common with acros than other cats. Any chance Eddie has a food allergy - anything changed there? Next time he has blood work, a complete GI panel might be helpful. Not diagnosis, but can provide pointers. Some cats need supplementation of B12, but test if low first. However, I still suspect cabergoline due to the timing.

Any chance your vet could get in Proviable paste? The SCL group I belong to suggest it for diarrhea. Similar ingredients, except more bacteria strains and no sugar. Full disclosure, little experience with managing kitty diarrhea. My GI issues cats have all be vomiters.

Hi Wendy,
I checked out the Proviable:

Ingredients per Capsule:
Fructooligosaccharide, gum arabic, gelatin, maltodextrin,
Ingredients per Paste:
Soybean oil, kaolin, fructooligosaccharide, gum arabic, pectin, dextrose, sucrose, silicon dioxide, maltodextrin

So, same deal, I guess. I'll continue with the Entero Aid and hopefully Eddie won't need a full course. As I mentioned he did have a formed kittybox deposit this morning. Maybe it's working with the Metamucil.

Thanks...

Awww, Jodey. It’s so complicated and you’re so amazing with Eddie!! Prayers this med will help with the diarrhea!! I hope Eddie feels better. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: To both of you!!

Fructooligosaccharides are safe for diabetics. The others not so much. Psyllium husk fiber (Metamucil) should help.
Well, it may be worth trying. He's currently on the Mertamucil so we've got it half right. I'll check with the vet to see about ordering the Proviable...

Just checked kittybox and the best way to describe what is left is gelatinous.

Hi Jodey I hope you can get the poop situation under control ,glad to hear that Eddie did produce a normal snapped poop this morning . Wishing Eddie all the best :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:
