Furball was happy & purry this morning despite the fact that I had to prick her ear three times to get a good blood drop. Has anyone had trouble getting enough blood on the Arkray GlucoCard 01 test strips from ADW? I seem to be getting a lot of low blood error messages since I started using them. I would get one every now and then with the test strips from Wal-Mart, but not like this. This morning I had a good amount of blood and just as I put the paper towel to Furball's ear, I got the error message. It is very annoying. I had to prick her ear again. Also, I'm not saving money if I'm having to use extra test strips. I know they are supposed to be the same, but I've noticed a difference.

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

For something like $0.18 cents per strip, I don't mind so much if I have to waste a few. Is it Err13 or something like that? Sometimes I actually don't have enough blood. Sometimes I pull up on the strip too soon or J.D. moves and the strip doesn't get enough blood.
I thought I heard once, although I don't if it's true, that ReliOn has a new meter with test strips that are just as inexepensive as the Arkray.

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

Dyana, it is an E-7 message, which means not enough blood. It just seems to be happening a lot lately. Sometimes I know there is not enough blood, but this morning it sucked up the blood like normal and seemed to have plenty, but I still got the error. I'll have to check and see if there is a new ReliOn meter. I need to get a backup and if I get a new meter, the one I'm using now can be my backup.

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

The new Relion meter is the Prime. It is $9 for 50 strips, so $.18 per strip. I use the Relion Ultima, and have found it to be very accurate when compared to the Vets AT. But, I bought a Prime to have as my backup meter because of the cheap strips. I didn't make the switch though because the numbers for us weren't close enough for my comfort. I know others have made the switch, and have said that it is very accurate. FWIW, I tried the Arkray too and the numbers weren't close enough to the Ultima.... So maybe my Ultima is the "problem" but it is what I am comfortable with. ;-)

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

Morning guys, sorry about the high amps, we are red too, seems to be the color of the morning, yuck! We use the relion confirm, the test strips are a little more expensive than the other relion you are talking about but I really like it. Been using it for the past two years now (got a new one when Scrabble went back on the juice). I almost never (anti-jinx) get an error message. Sucks when you have to poke multiple times, I always feel so bad. Well hope you get it figured out. Have a great day!

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

Hi Carla, I have the same problem, too, with error and waste three strips trying to get a reading. I notice on the Arkay Vital if the blood doesn't get sipped all the way thru the strip markingss, an error message appears. I may get the Prime as a back-up. Right now I have the Relion Confirm as the back-up, but I dropped it, and it doesn't seem to be working.
Hope Furball comes down today.

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

Thanks everyone. I'm actually using the Relion Confirm now. The Arkray test strips work in it. I will check out the ReliOn Prime. If the strips are cheaper I will probably try it. I can keep the Confirm as a backup.

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

Yes, let us know if you get the Prime. DH mentioned it when we were in Walmart and I didn't want to switch get since we were getting used to the ReLion. I've probably only hand 10 error messages with the ReLion since we started in August. But cheaper strips.....that's a big incentive. I hope they start working better.

Re: 12/04 Furball, AMPS=452 Test Strip Question

Hey Carla, hope Fuball comes down. Let me know too if you change to the Relion Prime - I use the Relion confirm and that's my back up as well, but if the other one works better, may get that one too.

Hope you have a great day!

Thanks everyone for your input on test strips and meters today. I am planning to go to Wal-Mart this weekend. I will see if they have the Prime in the store.

It was nice to come home to a blue PMPS, but she was on her way back up again. This has been what she usually does when I catch a blue. I had a hard time getting the evening test done because she kept wanting me to rub the top of her head.

HI Carla. Ouch on the amps, but Furball came down nicely to her pmps, huh? :-D
Interesting conversation about the Relion meters and strips. I'm going to check out the Prime. Ihave 2 Confirms as backups, but am noticing lately that the strips aren't fitting in tightly on my Presto, and I'm wasting strips also, on errors now.

Have a very nice night. :-D

Love the blue PMPS!!!

I hope you find a solution on the meter and test strips. I use a One Touch Ultra Mini; the strips are expensive but I get pretty good deals on ebay and I rarely ever have a problem with them not sipping correctly. I also have a Contour backup and it's an excellent meter, too, but the strips are about the same price as the OT.

Hi Carla, much nicer PMPS than AMPS today.

Interesting discussion about the Glucocard 01 test strips. I just ordered 500 of them yesterday for the first time! I can't get the Relion Confirm strips in Canada, but I have a friend who goes to Bellingham,WA every month and she does the shopping for me. However, when she went down last Saturday, the parking lot at Walmart was completely full. I have found with some boxes of the Confirm strips that I get an excessive number of E-7 messages. I'm make sure Neko's ear is really warm now, and that seems to have reduced the number of error messages. Either that or it was a new lot of strips.
