Bid has been doing great... I didn't know what quite to put in the subject since it's been a few days since his last shot.

I don't know what happened with him, if he had diabetes at all? If he just needed a little insulin.. or maybe it really is the food helping him.

The vet mentioned a inflamed pancreas... I don't know but I couldn't be happier with how he is doing :-D

Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Re: 12/03 Bid DAY 5 OTJ: BG 38

Pancreatitis can def. induce FD (I think that's what happened to my baby).

We do a 14 day countdown. Today is day 5!!! No worried about low BGs since he's not getting any insulin, k?

Go Bid!!!

Re: 12/03 Bid's BG 38

Remission has occurred before for some cats, solely from changing from HC dry to LC wet foods. It begins to look like the insulin just gave Bid's Pancreas the help it needed to get the beta cells back to work, making insulin...!

Still you can call your condo's now "12/x Bid AMBG xx - Day x OTJ Trial" or such !!

Congratulations again to you and Bid - you can guess I'm sure, that what has happened here is the absolute best possible outcome that ANY of us could ever hope for !!

Woo Hoo!!
Perry.

Re: 12/03 Bid's BG 38

Yep, just start your condo the same way you have been, but in the place of AMPS and PMPS you put OTJ Day X and then AMBG and PMBG. I am so jealous - Bid is doing exactly what we all wish our own kitties would do!

Re: 12/03 Bid's BG 38

Jenn so glad to hear Bid is still doing well. I was looking for your condo too wondering good to heart from you. I am so happy for you both. Maybe if Bid knows what he right he can let a certain little white cat know. Sure is raw today and no sun but at least no rain.

Re: 12/03 Bid's BG 38

Hi Jenn,

Perry is right on the money I think. He just needed a little push thats all. Either way it is all good. Stick with the lc food and I think you'll be fine. Others with OTJ kitties could tell you how much they test. After a while you don't have to do it as often, but you should always keep an eye on it. Did Bid ever get a steroid shot?

So happy for you both Jenn. Happy day 5!

Have a nice night.

Re: 12/03 Bid's BG 38

I actually count 4 days with no insulin -- you stopped shooting the PM cycle of 11/29.

Here's the scoop on an OTJ trial (shamelessly copied from Libby):

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

I will send you a PM with further instructions. CONGRATULATIONS!

Yes Bid did get a steroid shot (Which I had no clue was a steroid at the time).. In the middle of October we gave him some flea medicine which caused him to have a bad reaction and he got a bald spot.. My husband and I were going away at the end of October so we brought him to the vet cause we were scared to leave him and she gave him a cortisone shot. She made it seem like no big deal and didn't tell me about any side effects or anything. I know now not to let them give him anything without knowing what it is.. Then a month later (end of November) we realized he was drinking/urinating a ton.

I wish all kitties could be in the same boat as Bid!!! I don't know how we and Bid got so lucky and I don't know how long it can last but I pray he can be OTJ for a while!

And I'm going to hope and pray for all your kitties to be OTJ asap!!! cat_pet_icon
