Re: 12/01 J.D. AMPS 290

Another morning of breakfast in bed. Hmm, Nice. Don't give Willow any ideas, J.D.! It's bad enough that he thinks he should only eat people food now, don't want him expecting a meal delivered to his bed every morning now. lol

Re: 12/01 J.D. AMPS 290, Vet Update - starting ABs

My vet finally got back in to the office, today, and called me about J.D. C&S from last Friday. He has E Coli present in his urine.
He told me that I could choose not to treat it, but I said that I would. Although, J.D. is not longer running to the bathroom.
He said I could use Baytril, Amoxicillin, or Clavamox, and we agreed on Amoxicillin.
I hate ABs. J.D. will start tonight and will be on them for the next 10 days.

The order again is?:

Pepcid
and 30 minutes later - food and ABs
and sometime after that Forti Flora

Is that the correct timing?

Re: 12/01 J.D. AMPS 290, Vet Update - starting ABs

of course i'm no help with the question...
but hope the abs help him quickly...

Re: 12/01 J.D. AMPS 290, Vet Update - starting ABs

Pepcid is 30 mins before food, I know that. You want food in the belly before giving AB's, I know that, but not sure if you need to wait between feeding and giving ab's. With Muffin I usually give ab's and feed immediately after, that way she gets a reward for taking her meds. Fortiflora is 2 hrs after AB.

Is E coli odd for a cat to have? I don't think I've ever been told what type of bacteria has been present, so I'm just curious.

Re: 12/01 J.D. AMPS 290, Vet Update - starting ABs

I'm glad you decided to treat it. Scary that she would suggest otherwise. It was a sterile sample drawn by needle right?

Re: 12/01 J.D. AMPS 290, Vet Update - starting ABs

I'm sorry that the culture came back positive. I will send vines that J.D. tolerates the AB's without any problems. You should go back in after the AB's are done to recheck that everything is clear.

PMPS 144

Yes, I insisted on a sterile sample, and culture.

The pills are like horse tablets, they would make me choke. They're a little smaller than a dime
I fed him first, because I just got home at PMPS. Then I had computer problems when I logged on, so I couldn't just log on to see what you all wrote before I fed, shot, and gave the pill. He got some watered down 1/2 and 1/2 to wash the pill down with.

If I get home at PMPS at night. He'll get his test/shoot/food and then the Pepcid? And then I guess I'll wait the 30 minutes to give the pill. But, I want to give him the pill before feeding, so I make sure he gets it down his throat all the way..

I don't know.

I think the vet said that E Coli could be / is common in a diabetic cat, because of the sugar? Anyway, we're on ABs

Off to get the kids out for a walkie.

Re: 12/01 J.D. AMPS 290, Vet Update - starting ABs

One site I read indicated that a probiotic should be taken 2 - 3 hrs either before or after an AB.

Thanks Sienne.
I leave for tbp at +1.5. So, I'm thinking of leaving him his frozen FF covered in FortiFlora, before I leave for work.
I'll deal with the Pepcid, if and when he needs it. Is that okay? Or, do I need to be more proactive on that?

Re: 12/01 J.D. PMPS 144, Vet Update - started ABs

I think it should be OK. You know how J.D. eats. If you put some unfrozen food beneath the frozen, you can mix the FortiFlora in. I think that would probably be better than putting it on top of the frozen food.

Re: 12/01 J.D. PMPS 144, Vet Update - started ABs

Golly, it's a real juggling act, isn't it? Sorry to hear that J.D. has to go on antibiotics, but you want to get those bugs outta there.

I hope all will go well and that J.D. will take his pills with grace and good will!

J.D. ate at PMPS, +2, and +3, and I just gave him some more at +4.75.
I just had to call Verizon because my cell phone alarm wasn't ringing and only vibrating, and that cell phone is my vital alarm clock!
