Unless you see green today, I would increase tomorrow.
You should stop doing it but I wouldn't get a new vial or pen because of it. I keep my old, empty pens and if I need to, I push the overdraw and the bubbles into the old pen. This is probably heresy but I occasionally draw from the old pen. Haven't noticed any bad effects from doing so.Looks like we’ll probably be doing an increase then.. thanks for your guidance on this.
Any precautions I should be taking if I’m opening a new vial (pen)?
I’ve just recently learned that I may be doing one step wrong. If I over draw the insulin into the syringe, I’ve been putting the extra back in the vial to get the right dose. OR if I get bubbles I push them back in and try again.
I read that I shouldn’t be doing this, especially with Lantus and that the lubricant from the syringe could be going back into the vial… should I be worried about this? Or buy a new one and stop doing this?

Would not push the excess insulin or air bubbles back in the pen. Just Pull out about 1/2 a unit extra.Any precautions I should be taking if I’m opening a new vial (pen)?

I haven't heard of anybody doing what @Bama Kitty Mom is doing (putting excess insulin in another pen), but the L insulins are supposed to be pretty hardy.

Oh. I understood that as precautions wrt drawing out insulin. Did you mean in terms of testing etc? A new vial should not make a difference to numbers unless the old one has gone bad. Do you use a vial or pens? You highlighted my question about ‘any precautions I should take with opening a new vial’ but answered my other issue![]()
I missed that post. If he is in pain, that could also elevate numbers.I’m getting some Dasuquin hopefully shipped tomorrow and will be starting him on that too ASAP … I’m not sure if you saw my post a few nights ago but he had a double FHO 6 years ago and I’m now wondering if he has any inflammation or pain from that … he’s been taking a few extra seconds to get up after a long nap… if not, it will be a good preventative either way because it’s most likely inevitable the older he gets with his lack of hips![]()

Yup. Pens would be finished sooner and less chance of going bad. His numbers don't look like the insulin is bad. Looks more like glucose toxicity and needing to go up in dose fater to break that.In terms of opening a new vial. Im currently using the vial but im very interested in purchasing the pens for next round… in fact, that’s the plan. I like the idea of opening them more often. Im going on Friday to pick them up.
I went back and found it when I saw your previous message about the FHOAnd no problem in the missed post, it was the day he went had multiple blues on me (can’t wait For those days to come back!) and you helped with the more important part of the night… there were lots of messages that day![]()

You want to add that to your Signature, btw.
Bhooma, @Bandit's Mom, is thorough and simply the best!!! I always draw a little comfort from seeing where she has posted on many condos when it is late at night/early in the morning for us in the Eastern and Central time zones when it seems everyone else is sleeping. No need to panic when Bhooma is on the forums.I honestly think you’re right in that it’s not the insulin. We will see what happens tomorrow and the following days when I up his dose to 3u tomorrow morning.
That was sweet of you to go back and look! Just thought it was a good piece of info to add since I will be adding the Dasuquin to his routine as soon as I get it.
