+6 - 72
PMPS - 74

Good morning LL! Things are looking good again! Hoot's BG is so much better :-D :-D :-D I'm still holding my breath tho nailbite_smile I do have a question. Hoot has a sore on the back of his leg that won't heal...Diabetes?? Any suggestions to what to use to help it heal? He tends to be obsessive about licking it. I thought after he gets thru his trial (positive thinking!!) I might have to put a collar on him to give it time to heal. I like to use natural things if I can. Any suggestions would be very welcome and thanks! Have a Purrrrfect day everyone!

Happy Day 5 OTJ  Go Hoot!

Glad you were able to figure out and hopefully can limit Hoots access to the neighbors dry food. Treatment for his sore may depend on what caused it (cut? bite? allergy itch?) and how long its been there. When our cat had lasting sore and created a lick granuloma, our vet gave us some pet ointment that was similar to neosporin. The cat licked it off, but I think it helped some with healing and the taste discouraged excessive licking.

It wasn't a cut or anything I know of. It just appeared and stayed small for awhile and actually got somewhat better. But since the DX it has gotten bigger, I think because he won't leave it alone. There seem to be red places that tell me there is some skin irritation. He has had it a few months now but it seems to be getting worse. I could put neosporin on it but hate the thought of him ingesting all that neosporin. I am going to do some research on some natural products. I was putting coconut oil on it and might start that again. But I'm almost afraid to do anything while he is on his OTJ trial. Whatever I put on it he will ingest, which could affect his BG. Thanks Leslie!

Way to go HOOT...Keep it going buddy, you can do it! Congratulations Pam and hope you and Hoot have a great OTJ Trial day!

Thanks! You have a great day also!

Looks Like Hoot is back on track.
I have a friend who had a cat that had a little spot and then he became obssessed with licking it. Like an obsessive compulsive disorder....
She had to use the cone long enough for the sore to heal to get him to leave it alone.
Neosporin is supposed to be bad for them if they ingest it. I remember reading that here somewhere.

Happy Day Five !!

Yeah, I think Hoot is a little OCD with it and will probably have to wear a cone too. Have a great weekend Rhiannon and Shadow!

One other thought, if Hoot has several spots and he keeps licking them it might indicate a food allergy. Our Pixe had sores that we thought were from squabbling with the other cats, they turned out to be self inflicted due to food allergy which we eventually determined was chicken allergy. Once we eliminated food that contained any chicken, she stoppped licking the raw spots and they cleared up. The cone will help prevent the licking, but if its a food allergy you will need to look into different food for him.

Congratulations to hoot.. Did you sort out the neighbour food problem?
No, he hasn't been home to talk to. I just go over in the morning and pick up the bowl if theres anything left before I let Hoot out. Today the bowl was empty. I have no doubt we can work it out, he is a really nice guy.

Well, he had been on the same dry food (before I changed him to wet) for a long time, so it makes me think it's not food....but you never know. Thanks for the input.

Hi Pam &Hoot,
Wow , this O tJ trial is soooo exciting. We have little bets within the family of what Reds BG will be and kee p our fing ers crossed every test.
I don't know if you are, but I am feeling quite opptomistic that theses two can get through their two weeks.
I am so happy that you have managed to get Hoot OTJ so far! Havent the LL community been fantastic. I certainly haven't felt on my own for one minute.
Keep up the great work Pam and Im sure Hoot will keep surfing along.
Can you use tea tree oil on cats? it's great on humans. But he would need a collar on as you certainly don't want him to ingest it. Just a thought.
I will be keeping a close eye on Hoot and my fingers crossed for him too,
Great to chat, kathx

Hi Kath & Red!! It really is so exciting!! Hoot had a little set back for a few days but is back on track now :-D I know that I couldn't have done it with out all the awesome, knowledgeable people on the FDMB. I am so happy for you and Red also! :RAHCAT They can do this :RAHCAT I haven't checked on the tea tree oil, but thought about it, Thanks! You and Red have a GREAT weekend and I'll be watching Red with our paws crossed too :-D :-D :-D
