I'm fairly new and not an expert but this sticky helped me with understanding how long the pens last:

^ That's assuming the pen is refrigerated.

I was able to use every pen to the last drop (both Lantus and Levemir). They would last me around 3 months. You want to store the pens/vials in the fridge but not in the fridge door - so that they are less exposed to higher temperatures and movement.

Great!! thank you both!! I do store it in the fridge door, but I live alone so its not like its opened a lot. Ill be changing this habit.Nolas doses are so little, we have over 50% of the pen left and it seemed so wasteful to discard it. I just dont want to inject her and the insulin not to be at its full capacity.
