Butch's new Libre sensor ended last night, probably due to yesterday's low numbers and consistently testing. It was replaced late last night.

Butch slid from his bounce into the blues with some yellow later in the cycle. Hoping with tonight's shoot he surfs steady with blue and green.

AMPS meal 4% with tilapia for shoot, +1, +2 and, +3 snack 4% tsp

Wishing everyone and nice night and safe surfing!

Hi Madeline, do you also find that when Butch lingers in low numbers for several hours that it kills the sensor? That’s what I am finding and it’s the first time I’ve seen you mention that.

Usually what happens with me as I start getting no readings because she’s just lingering in the LO range and then eventually it just stops working and sends the message to replace sensor.
It’s the dreaded message you never want to get and it’s never at a good time. Yesterday, it happened at 5:30 in the morning for me and today it happened again around 10:30 am.
:banghead::banghead:
I hope Butch has a safe cycle and you can get some rest tonight with no drama:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci. Yes, for me when Butch lingers in the low numbers, I am scanning more (testing) and when I need to do that it kills the sensor. The same thing happens, it stops working and I get the message to replace the sensor. Butch's last sensor lasted the full 14 days and I replaced it Monday morning only to replace the new one late last night. :banghead::banghead: I was worried that Butch was going to give a hard time replacing it and I'd have till wait till this morning but glad he didn't.

Ivy's really keeping you busy with the lows. Are you going to adjust Ivy's units?

I've been giving Butch hair less than 1.75u. I was surprised to see AM blue today and he surfed with some yellow into the PMPS. It would be nice to see green cycles and have him surf steady without feeding. Hopefully this 1.75u skinny does the trick!

I hope Ivy has a safe cycle too and you too can get some needed rest tonight.

Hi Madeline. Sounds like we both have that same experience then with the lows. It really sucks.
We also killed 2 sensors in 2 days this week. I’m just lucky I can install them on Ivy and she cooperates (to some degree).
I’m so glad you are able to manage to install them on Butch also.
A lot of people seem to be very hesitant to do that but I think it’s so important to be able to try to do it yourself if you can.

I hope the skinny dose does the trick for Butch so that you don’t have to constantly feed him. It’s such a fine line isn’t it? I did also reduce Ivy a hair last night down to 3.5 fat dose hoping that I can also not be feeding her every 20 to 30 minutes. Plus, I can’t have her killing these Libre’s to in a day. It just means she’s staying too low. I did clock her at 56 on a handheld device yesterday so that was even a little lower than I want her to be riding.
I hope we both have better luck with the doses we just went to. But of course it’s always changing so it’s a process isn’t it? Hope you both have a safe day with calm cycles.

Hi Staci.
I agree, it is so important to be able to try to put the sensor on yourself if you can. I am so grateful you shared with me the FB Libre group. It was extremely helpful. Prior I had to go to my vet's office to have sensor placed and Butch was sometimes without it for 2 days. It used to make me nervous wreck not knowing.

Thank you. Yes, it is a fine line. So far, I am liking this dose, but it's only been a few cycles. Yesterday Butch surfed blue with some yellow before his PMPS. This morning at 4 AM, I woke up to the senor alarm. I was surprised at the +7.5 Butch slid into the greens. I was so tired because I didn't get to sleep till midnight. I did feed him a little tsp snack of 12% at +7.5 and +9.5 and stood up till 6 AM, only to get in another hour sleep before starting my day today. I'm happy my workday is remote today.

Me too, hoping we both have better luck with the new dose we just went to.
Wish you both a safe day and calm cycle too. :cat::)

HI Madeline, I am SO happy you are changing the Libre's yourself! I am SO proud of you! I know it's a little challenging, but SO worth it, even if you mess one up now an then (I have done it where it gets stuck...)
But it's so important to be able to install a new one asap yourself when needed (like at 4 or 5 am or ....midnignt....been there)
I would lose my mind if I couldn't have Ivy's readings for several days, as you said.

Is there a reason why you are still using the Libre 2? (If I asked you before, I apologize).

With the Libre 3 and the new Libre 3+, you can monitor Butch remotely (so if you are out of the house, you will know his numbers remotely).
You will need another phone to leave at him with him to send the data to your personal phone you take with you.
And you can get an inexpensive phone (or an older one) - no plan for service needed, just WIFI and bluetooth to transmit the data.
(I use an iphone 8 for Ivy's phone, bought on ebay).

I only used the Libre 2 for a few months and once I got the hang of that I knew I needed to get the Libre 3 so I could have data 24/7 and NOT have to go over to her and physically scan her to get the reading. It was a GAME CHANGER for me to upgrade to the 3.It made such a difference to my anxiety level with the information in my hand at all times.

Anyway, sorry for the lecture....just trying to help.
Wishing you and Butch a very safe day and I really hope you can get some badly needed rest today!!!!

I’ve been off the board for a wee bit and didn’t see a new post for today. Although I can’t find it in the SS, I see in your title BG 34. Maybe I’m missing something but in the absence of a recheck with a hand held meter, numbers in the 30s generally warrant a full 0.25u a reduction.

Hi Christie.
Thank you for checking up on us. I really appreciate it :bighug:
I made a typo the +5 35 should have been 134. Thank you, I didn't realize it.
I didn't get a chance to post earlier but I just added Butch's post for today.

Hi Staci. Thank you so much :bighug:
I tried to post earlier but I got caught up and wasn't able to post till know

Thank you for sharing the information about the 3. I have been interested in the Libre 3 but never really looked into it. Having data 24/7 and not having to physically scan Butch would definitely be a game changer for me too. I heard that there was an issue with getting the 3. Is it so? and is it complicated to set up with the two iPhone?
I am going to be upgrading my iPhone shortly, so I'll have the two phones needed.

No apologies...I really appreciate your help!
I hope you and Ivy had a nice calm day and wishing you both a relaxed and safe night!

I’m very happy to help, Madeline. Just don’t like to be pushy on anyone.

Yes, there have been issues lately getting the 3 and I was able to get some and haven’t tried to get more in the past few weeks. I think the 3 and the 3 plus seem to be available right now, so you could call your local pharmacy just to see what they have on their shelf or have access to. Or check with various pharmacies in your area.
That’s what I did when there was a shortage I called around.
Yes, it’s pretty easy to set up on your phone and it’s great if you’re getting a new phone and you will have your old phone you can use to leave it home with Butch that’s perfect.
I’m happy to help when you are ready :bighug::bighug::bighug:
