Not too shabby with that +3.5!

I couldn't post this on Trix's actual "Gotcha Day" - Halloween - because we were without power, so I'm posting it today! Trix became a member of our family on Halloween 2004, when she was 3 years old. She had been abandoned by our former next door neighbors earlier in the fall; they had just moved in, and she had gotten out shortly after. They made virtually no effort to find her, other than putting a bowl of food out on the porch. We found out about this when we went over to introduce ourselves; these "people" told us they had two cats and a dog, but one of the cats had taken off - but that was OK, because she was a "pain in the ass anyway."

Eventually, she found her way to our back porch; one night we heard a noise out there, and when we turned the light on, we saw this tiny little cat. She froze in the light, then bolted. We could tell right away that she needed help...she looked emaciated, and was obviously terrified. So, we started putting food out for her, in hopes of gaining her trust. After a few days, she developed a routine of coming by at around 7:00. She would warily look in the door at us, but would not let us anywhere near her. It was starting to get cold at night, so we knew we had to take action. We contacted the rescue group that we got our other kitties from, but - of course - their foster homes were filled to the gills. But, they agreed to help us trap her and they would get her the medical care she needed and we agreed to foster her. (With 5 kitties, we were filled to the gills, too!) It was really the only option.

When we first set the trap for her, she walked in, started chowing on her big plate of Fancy Feast...but was too light and underweight to trip the trap!!! DH went out and adjusted the trap, and a few minutes later, we had her. The rescue group took her to the hospital, where she stayed for 2.5 weeks to recover from nearly starving to death. And, it turned out her previous owners had declawed her, but didn't spay her!

Once released from the hospital and came to us as a "foster" on Halloween Day, she still had a long way to go. She only weighted 4lbs, you could see her skeleton through her fur, and when she laid on her side, I could make an arc with my thumb and forefinger and run it along the length of her body and not touch her at all - and she was an adult cat!! So, we had to foster her until she gained enough weight and was well enough for her spay surgery. Needless to say, that was quite a while - and how could we NOT get attached to her!

Once she was healthy, well, we just could not let her go...she was meant to be with us, and we could not be happier.

Here are just a few pictures...

Trix, on Halloween Day, 2004 - her first day with us:

A few weeks later, she learned we weren't so scary after all!

A recent shot of Trix testing out DaddyBean's new scale (she's still too light to register!):

Happy Belated Gotcha Day Sweet TrixieCat!!!!

Have a great day, LantusLand!!!

Amy

ETA....I don't know why that first picture is appearing twice - and I can't seem to edit it out!

Re: 11/5 Trixie AMPS 188 +3.5 109 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!!

Awww what a great story! Trust through food wins out in so many cases - that's how we got Leo last year. Some people are so cruel - what makes a little kitten a pain in the ass? Even as compared to a DOG?!? Thank you for taking in this little starving kitty, even though you were filled to the gills. Sometimes the really unfortunate ones are the ones that get so wrapped around our hearts and they seem to know how precarious things were for them. She is such an adorable little thing! How could you not love that?!?

Thanks for sharing Trixie's story and her pictures.

Happy Gotcha Day, Miss Trixie!

Thanks for sharing her story, Amy. She was a lucky girl to come to your doorstep.

Re: 11/5 Trixie AMPS 188 +3.5 109 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!!

Ohhh....what a beautiful and heartwarming story. It's so sad and hard to believe that people can treat a pet like that and just abandon it. Well, it was meant to be with Trixie showing up on your porch and warming her way into your hearts. Happy Halloween Anniversary to sweet Trixie, and she is so lucky to have you and DH as her Beans. Give Trixie extra hugs and scritches from us. It looks like she's on a nice slide, too. Have a nice day, Amy.

Re: 11/5 Trixie AMPS 188 +3.5 109 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!!

Awwww love the story! The pictures just about broke my heart seeing how skinny she was. She hit the jackpot by finding you and DH.

I wish awful things on your neighbors, how could people be so heartless?

Re: 11/5 Trixie AMPS 188 +3.5 109 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!!

Hi Amy,
It always amazes me why some people would even think of having a "pet". There are so many stories like Trixie's out there, but not so many that have such a happy ending. Alice(GA) was thrown away apparently when her "family" moved. We rescued her from a gang of little boys with sticks and bats. She had been spayed and had obviously had a home. She was our first kitty. Having a home was the most important thing in the world for her.
I know that Trixie feels the same way about your loving home. Happy "Gottcha Day", Trixie Cat. You are one lucky girl!

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 11/5 Trixie AMPS 188 +3.5 109 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!!

That's a great story and a happy ending. Trixie found the Right home.
I shudder to think of her with fd and that family.

Hope she keeps sliding and has a green day!

Re: 11/5 Trixie AMPS 188 +3.5 109 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!!

Aww, I love this story's happy ending. Poor little girl, an adult kitty at only 4 lbs???? Yikes!
My kitten, Mackie weighed that when he was 8 weeks old.

In the photo where she is on someone's lap, it looks like she's smiling. I love the expression on her face, so CUTE!

Happy Gotcha' Day to a lucky girl.... both of you. Hee, hee!

Re: 11/5 Trixie +7 78 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!! Power Update

Thanks for all the visits everyone! Trix is celebrating with a little dip in the lagoon!

She's sitting on my lap in that picture, and she certainly does look like she's smiling, doesn't she? I think she knew she finally found where she belonged. They were horrible, horrible people...I'm glad they're gone, but feel sorry for any other pets they have, and for their children (they had 5 or 6...lots of 'em). If Trix developed FD while living with them, I guarantee you she'd be at the bridge right now.

It looks like my parents are going to be without power for a long, long time. The tree that is laying across the wires is the big issue over there, and now it looks like the bulk of the resources have been sent to the shore, even though a lot of people up here are still without power. I'm desperately trying to convince them to either get a hotel (which is hard to find right now), or go to my brother's out in Lehigh. But, my brother is also housing his SIL and nephew, and my Mom doesn't want to leave her house because my other brother - who is 52 but is really unable to support himself - and his 18 year old son live with them. And they can't come here because I don't have room, and my Dad is allergic to the cats. It's a mess.....but something HAS to be done soon. In the meantime, I've become the "parent", and they're each taking turns calling me to tattle on the other  ...

Re: 11/5 Trixie +7 78 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!! Power Update

I love Trixie's story! What a sweet lucky girl. She is lucky to have found two beans as wonderful as you and you are very lucky to have found her. Happy Gotcha Day Trixie! You are loved to the moon and back by your beans and all of your Aunties here.

That is so sad about your parents. I imagine they are stressed and are not thinking quite straight. Big hugs and lots of vines that they get their electricity back soon and that you have the patience to listen until they do. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 11/5 Trixie +7 78 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!! Power Update

My SIL (DH's sister) is lending my parents a generator, even though my Dad is still saying "that's too much trouble". It is happening. DH is going to pick it up after work....

DH also saw a PSE&G plan that claims the entire town will be back up and running within 4 days. I'll believe it when I see it...

Re: 11/5 Trixie PMPS 89 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!! Power Update

Amy - wow - I am really sorry to hear about the power situation with your parents. Sounds like they are in that group of "isolated customers" who won't be turned back on quickly. BUT - I'm glad your dad changed his mind about the generator. Probably realizing that this wasn't just another day or two, changed his mind.

Wishing you calming vines as the go-between in this stressful situation.

Re: 11/5 Trixie PMPS 89 - Trix's Gotcha Day!!! Power Update

:-D Happy Gotcha Day, Trixie!! :-D I'm so glad you have her now, Amy.

I'm sorry it's so stressful for you right now. Soon, the electricity will be back. I hope everyone in your family is able to keep warm, and some form of normalcy in the mean time.

Ugh....long night ahead. Between chain saws, my parents, delayed "Halloween" (which we aren't doing, so no our house is intentionally dark!!), I'm a HUGE bundle of nerves.

But, the generator is up and running, and my parents have heat and a few lamps. We need this to end!

I'm sorry things are still so stressful for you and your family. I'm glad your parents got the generator. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before they can get their power back on. Trixie is a lucky kitty to have you for her bean. It sounds like you were meant to be together.

Amy, so sorry about what your parents are going thru with the power outage, and you, too, with trying to help solve things for them. So glad they have the generator and heat. I hope that is so with the power up and running in four days.

Amy,
What a sweet story of how Trixie found you. Isn't it amazing how they know where to go so they will be safe?
HAPPY GOTCHA DAY TRIXIE I hope late is better than never!!!!

Wow, that is quite a story about how Trixie came to be with you. What a lucky girl. I'm glad to hear your parents are getting a generator! I think we might need to get one for an emergency. You need to get up on your board, surfer girl.
Liz

Amy, I loved the story of how you rescued Trixie and became her forever family. Your neighbors were the neighbors from hell and they don't deserve to have animals or children. Shame on them!

I am so sorry to hear about all the problems that your parents are experiencing (and you, too!). I'm glad they have the generator and can rest a little easier tonight. Stay strong and I will be sending lots of healing prayers to you. It is hard to have to be the parent to your parents!

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY LITTLE TRIX!

I love Trixie's story and she is such a lucky lucky girl. And she is celebrating her special day (a little late) in style.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the problems your family is having and I hope the generator solves the issues or at least helps. I also hope the electrical issues are resolved in four days.

Hugs!

Hi Amy - what a great story. WOW, how lucky Trixie is to have found you. Such a tiny thing she was too.

I hope things work out OK for your parents. Seniors can be so stubborn. Wishing them and you the best.

Trix is keeping me busy tonight, but she's surfing safe - just with extra pokies in there!

Thanks for all the visits and thoughts for my parents. Funny...they have heat now, but now I'm nervous about them having a generator - does it ever end??? A glass of wine calmed my rattled nerves. I just keep reminding myself that as each day passes, we're one day closer to all of this being over with!
