Tibbs is having great 5 p's. i have not gotten any mid cycle tests so keeping his dose at 1.75fat until i can check his nadirs. Hope you are all ok. missed you folks these last few days.

Re: 11/5 Tibbs amps 404

Sorry to hear you've been having such a stressful time. You have a lot on your plate. I hope you're able to find some time to take care of yourself.

thanks April
better today thanks. it was just one of those weeks.
hope you and Maddy are doing ok.

Wow you got lots of work with all that going on. Hope your energi is on the way back.

Good thing for the 5 p's, butt common Tibbs, get those numbers down :)

Any way you could get yourself some respite help - maybe from your church if you have one, or a local community group such as Girl or Boy Scouts, etc.?

Nadine,

I spent a great deal of time going over Tibbs' spreadsheet last night and this is getting just silly. Either you have a cat that is in chronic rebound (doubtful since he tosses ketones if reduced), or you have a cat that is possibly Acro or IAA and therefore a high dose cat, or Lantus just doesn't work for him.

IAA can be broken by just cranking up the dose until you hit a breakthrough dose, but then you have to be ready to start reducing quickly to keep up with the falling numbers. Which means lots of testing to stay on top of the numbers.

Acro -I've never dealt with personally but I have some folks I can call on that have. With your permission I would like to link a dear friend that was on this board a long time ago but seldom posts anymore to have a look, she's awesome at spotting an Acro by their spreadsheets as she has several that she adopted over the years.

There are tests for both IAA and Acro that your vet can spend out to be run to check for both conditions. Normally we don't start thinking about either until the dose is up around 5 units or higher but where he isn't budging at all and he's ketone prone it might be something to look into earlier rather than later. This is a link to the basics on both IAA and Acro How to spot a high dose kitty What little I do know about Acros is that their caregivers usually switch them over to Levemir because of the sting of Lantus at higher doses. Just something to read through and consider. With him being ketone prone it makes me nervous to see him staying in such high numbers.

that would be great Mel. thanks.
his ketones test yesterday still negative. (so far)
thank you everyone for your help and ideas. i usually handle things ok but wasn't feeling well myself this week.
doing better. thanks sooooooo much

I'm really glad to hear that you're picking up a bit, Nadine. Being that drained is tough. Quadruply so when you are caring for so many loved ones, two- and four-legged.

At this point his dose isn't high enough to suspect either condition but I'm kinda an information junkie and always like to be forewarned before problems present themselves. So I figured that I would at least throw out those as possibilities so that you can at least read up on them, see if you see any of the physical traits just so that if we keep raising his dose and he doesn't come down at all, the possibility of a high dose cat isn't going to freak you out. And well if he is, he is and at least this way you can start preparing just in case, I know I would need time to work my budget around a cat that wanted to drink insulin like water.

More than likely his dose just isn't high enough yet, and once we get him up more he'll hit a break-through dose and start playing by the sugar cat rules.

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: Nadine! I know just how you feel! I hope you get Mr. Tibbs figured out soon. As you may remember, Sunshine started doing better as soon as we switched her to Levemir. Just something to add to your data pool.

i am seriously thinking about going to Levimir. i'm going to raise him a little more and if still nothing, going to ask vet to change.
