Hi all,

yesterday

So now that I am reflecting back on what the vet said I feel like I am totally confused and panicked.

The vet said that there were some abnormalities in her GI test, that there was a bacteria present and that she is going to give her antibiotics on Monday. She also wants to give her a supplement of B12 since it seems low. She said that most cats seem to respond to the antibiotics for this bacteria, and I did ask her if this meant something more horrible could be going on. She did mention that in some cases this could possibly be lymphoma, but to see how everything goes with the antibiotics as well as her appetite and any more weight loss. I did tell her that she has not thrown up since Sunday night and she thought that was good. Well of course, now I am worried about the worse possible outcome. I wished that I asked her the name of the bacteria so that I could look it up on line, but that probably won't help my nerves. I am going to pick up her meds on Monday and I am going to ask for the report so that I can post it here too, to get some feedback.

I am going to try and stay positive. She's eating, still wants deli turkey, hasn't thrown up in five days, and is playful.

I feel for you Dianne! Try not to worry, it could be nothing. I know that's easier said than done, but try not to think about it. She's feeling good now, so that seems like a good sign!

Thanks Kristen! I get so nervous when it comes to this stuff!

BTW- I love that pic of Emma! Just beautiful!

I know I would be a nervous wreck too, we love them so. Try and stay strong and positive.
I will pray for the best outcome for Savannah.

I'm glad Savannah saw the Vet to rule out what is going on w/her. On a good note....she hasn't thrown up lately. Hang on to that fact. I can't tell ya not to worry but that's what we do....we worry..because we care and luv our kitties so much......So maybe allow yourself just a few minutes a day to indulge in that part of being human....Worrying...... and then focus on what you have done and can do for Savannah.

Your family here is thinking about you and Savannah....sending you calm and peace-filled thoughts......and healing vines for Miss Savannah.

Well, I am glad that you brought her to the vet too...can you call them tomorrow and ask about the name of the bacteria? Might as well get the name of it. Meanwhile, you will get the ABs on Monday...be sure to get a probiotic like Fortiflora to give a few hours after the Abs each day...

Try to stay positive and hope that the ABs do their job and then the recheck numbers will be better.
You can post the report her when you get it....
How is Savannah acting today?
Sending healing vines to her and hugs to you both! :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

I'm totally out of the loop here. How did the vet determine that there are bacteria present? Did you bring in a stool sample? If you look at the "labs" tab on Gabby's SS, there is a section at the bottom on the results of a fecal culture. Several months ago, Gabby went through several episodes of vomiting and a short bout of diarrhea. I'd give her Pepsid, Reglan, and Flagyl. I don't think she was on the Flagyl long enough the first 2 episodes to knock out whatever was going on. As a result, my vet suggested getting the fecal cultures run to see if there was a bacterial infection present. Idexx was the lab that ran the cultures. Many vets can test for giardia in house.

Thanks all for your warm thoughts.

Sienne- she ran all sorts of tests and specific GI tests, but did not collect a stool sample. I don't really know how she came to that conclusion...

Pat- where can you get Fortiflora?

I hope all turns out well for Savannah. I am glad that you took her to the vet - try and reain positive - Mannie and I send as many good thoughts as we can muster. I hope the AB's help Savannah get better. It is good to read that she feels well.
