So I had a bit of a crisis this morning. When I tried to get a +4 this morning, I kept getting error codes. I tried five strips they all failed. The code was E20, a generic code that means try again with a new strip. I would occasionally get this code when he has low BG but I would get a reading if I tried again. This time I didn't. So I was worried that he was low because of his +2 and the way he was acting. So I gave him some mc and ran to the store to get a new meter ( I thought maybe the meter was faulty). :arghh:

I was originally going to just buy a new meter but In Canada you can get a free meter when you buy 100 test strips. So i got the strips and a meter. When i got home I tried the new meter and the old strips and still got an error:confused:. I tried the new strips and finally got a reading 67. So now I don't know how low he was at +4.

Weird thing is, I tried the old strips again just now and they worked o_O.

Anyway, he got a green somthat is good.

What an exciting morning. Trust meters (and technology) to let you down when you need them to work badly! :banghead:
Wondering if he needs a reduction. Let's see what he does tomorrow.

I have the same meter (Contour) and have the same exact problem! It only gives me errors when he’s under 60 or so. Exactly when I need an answer! I called the company and they said it could happen when they are under 50, but that doesn’t make sense b/c it’s supposed to register anything from 30 and up. Also they said it could be b/c it’s cat’s blood and the meters are made for humans. I don’t really think that is true, though. I started wearing nitrile gloves b/c I think the strips are really sensitive to the oils in my hand and any moisture if I just washed them. I think that helped, but I still get occasional errors. I was going to switch but these meters are a really good. I think they’re the most consistent and accurate. I did end up getting a backup of a different brand in case it happens too many times. The accu-chek guide is also a very good meter and tests relatively close to the Contour.

Thanks for letting me know, it is not just me. Interesting, I will try wearing gloves. It is a drag it can't be relied on when I need it most. I should get a different back up meter too.

When I called customer service, as soon as I mentioned that I use it on my cat they refused to help me:rolleyes:

Wow, that’s rude!
It is really frustrating.
Btw, I just put the glove on the hand that I touch the strip with. I re-use the glove, too.
