11/4 Howie in blues—questions

Howie has been in the blues the past 2 mornings so have been following guidance to only give 7 units and not his 8.5 units. Tomorrow he would be scheduled to increase his dosage but I’m assuming I should just keep him at 8.5 for now (following TR)? I also don’t know if I should continue him at 7 units in the AM if he is between 150-200 or what I should be doing? I’m working from home the next couple of days (was at the office earlier this week) and he gets mini meals at +2.5, +4, and +5.5. I appreciate any feedback on his SS and what advice anyone has.

Yes, he needs to go back up to 8.5. I wouldn't have even reduced him down to 7 the last 2 mornings but I understand why you did. If he's over 150, you should give the scheduled dose, not reduce it. If you're worried and can't test during the cycle, leave some higher carb food in his feeder.

Reducing the dose when you're just starting to get some better numbers just lets his body get used to being high despite the insulin (especially with IAA cats). It allows glucose toxicity to set in.

If he's under 150, stall, don't feed and test again in 20-30 minutes. Post for help (with a clear subject line like "STALLING! NEED HELP!!" (usually works...LOL)

If the number goes up, it's usually fine to go ahead and shoot. Remember, you're not shooting the number he's at now....you're shooting the number he'll be at in 3-4 hours and during that time you'll also be feeding his usual meal. From your +1 tests (good job at doing those!) you can see he gets a pretty decent "food bump" just from his regular meal at shot time.

I got advice from another member yesterday AM to reduce to 7units and then with the server down this AM, I just followed suit again. Tomorrow he should actually be going up to 9 units under TR. Should I stick to 8.5 units or make the move to 9?

He didn't get 6 full uninterrupted cycles at 8.5 so that's what you return to before considering going up to 9U

And yes, I saw where you got told to reduce. I don't agree with that but that happens here. You aren't always going to get the same answer from everybody.

On TR, it's almost always going to be best to just shoot the scheduled dose (unless they're below 50) especially if you're going to be able to test.

It's best to have just one post per day, though I know the outage caused some confusion.
I posted that last night at 8pm and no one responded to it until 630pm tonight. I’m not sure when the outage happened overnight/this morning but it wasn’t getting any responses and I needed my questions answered. I’ve also been told to always start a new thread each day since there are always so many posts on this forum. So I guess I’m confused and never use/post appropriately.

I noticed the outage around midnight last night my time (west coast) and it was out for half the day today. It was also quiet here last night, maybe too many people watching the US elections. Hopefully this is a one off. Just post one post per day that you do post. You don't have to post everyday.
