Hello, Happy Friday!!

I am really looking forward to the weekend, especially Caturday. :) I need some 1-on-1 time relaxing with the kitties, that does not involve poking/prodding, etc.. This past week has been full of change for them, and I just want to assure them it's all good/okay. Extra cuddles are due!

Summary of AMPS/feeding/insulin:
  • Kitties woke me up an hour earlier. I tried doing the insulin myself and failed (failed meaning, I couldn't wrangle and shoot, so I never even tried to shoot! Just wanted to clarify that!! No double shooting here.), so I had to call in reinforcements (DH). He wasn't happy b/c his alarm hadn't gone off yet. Oops. I will learn how to administer Cliff's shot myself soon-I'm hopeful that will happen this weekend.
  • Whole process from test to shot took about 5 minutes! That's down from 20 min on the first day.
  • Rice sock is definitely helping!
  • Cliff is still a little skittish/stressed, but we are working on it.
Placed an order for back-up supplies for Cliff (and a few health items for me,) & I'm super excited that some of the items will arrive later today with free shipping/Amazon Prime. That is the best $11 investment so far.., to join Prime Monthly right now while I am figuring out this new diagnosis. I may cancel in the future, but for now it will save me trips to store for various items. I've been to the vet's office/Petco 4x over past week... So cutting down on running around is a lifesaver.

Hope everyone is having/will have a great day!

Quick evening update. PM test/feeding/insulin went much more smoothly b/c I had time to hang out with the cats before starting to poke him. I really feel much more confident and like this is all very doable, but that is in large part thanks to this board. I mean it, you guys rock!!

Three things I'm thankful for:
  • Fall. Campus was beautiful today/this week.
  • My co-worker, who brought me fresh roasted pumpkin to work. I will eat that for brekkie tomorrow!
  • Caturday-Eve. I've been hanging out with the kitties all night, & loving it!

Hi Michele, happy Friday to you! :)
1 on 1 time is always good, give them lots of cuddles this caturday (love that word!:p)
Those are indeed a lot of changes but they will get used to it, even the non diabetic! I got 2 myself and the non diabetic Minnie was used to it after a week or 2. The food routine was a little hard because they needed to be fed at certain moments instead of eating all day! Haha!

Oh well Michele you will learn to give that insulin shot in no time! I had to do it on my own as my bf was scared to do it, so the first couple ones were scary to me but later on it was a routine. You will be surprised how quick you will get used to it!
How great that the routine already came down from 20 min to 5 minutes!!! Hoorayyyyy:D

Great you bought things online! It saves you a lot of money instead of buying it at the vets or a store!

Hope you will have a great day today! :bighug:

I'm glad it made you smile :bighug:
I know, everyone here is so encouraging and sweet! I loved it to have so many nice people around me when I was in need of help with Baco. It's nice to have people around you (on he board) that understand you, versus your 'real' life were some people don't understand the situation... I had to deal with that unfortunately and I know a lot of other people here too! It s*cks when people around you don't understand it...

Now Baco doesn't need insulin anymore but still hanging out here to help others and just chatting with the prozinc family!
People here are very friendly and you also bond with them a lot, even making some friends here!

Hi Michele,

You're fast becoming my partner in the forum post layout department. I've jokingly referred to myself as the "Lady of the List" because I love putting info down in numbered or bulleted lists as well as using font enhancements and paragraph spacing. Can't help myself because I have graphic design training.

You'll learn to give shots on your own very quickly. Don't worry if you flub one occasionally (I did this AM). To be safe, though, never give more insulin if you make a mistake or aren't sure if it went in.

I echo Ruby's comments about this being a great group. After a while you do feel as though you've made friends - and we worry about each others' kitties.:)

You have a lovely attitude about this sugar dance, Michelle, and that will help you so much!

Maybe tell us about your preshot regime and we might have some ideas to make it easier. It is wonderful that you are getting it all done so much faster, but it would be good if you felt confident about giving the test/shot yourself. What does Cliff do that makes it difficult?

@Kris & Teasel haha! I definitely love a good list. :) My lists are helping me keep my sanity over the past week.

And thanks for the encouragement about learning to give the shots. I tested Cliff again this AM +2, and since the # went down I'm assuming the shot my husband administered went in/did it's thing. My husband is really good at getting this part done, I just want to be able to do it myself! I definitely keep telling myself and him never to give more insulin if we make a mistake/aren't sure if it went in. I love this board for the constant reminders, and I hope that everyone with a diabetic kitty finds this board, because it has been such a help!

I am really happy to be here on this board!!

I have to say Michelle that you have a wonderful attitude about this! I sobbed the first time I gave Gypsy a shot...and I had practiced at the vet so I knew it didn't bother her!

Do let us know how we can help. Maybe we can come up with some ideas for your morning routine to help?

Amazon Prime is pretty much my favorite service in the world! Although it's led to me developing a bit of an Amazon addiction, so be careful with that... :)

Edited to include a quick evening update. It's been one week since we got Cliff's results/diagnosis emailed to us from our vet. But we survived, all of us. And I'm so thankful. :) You can expect more posts from me & the kitties tomorrow. Take care!
