Happy Sunday!

Yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=129181

After a nice evening yesterday, our RB decided to bounce. He seems to be clearing it quickly today, though, so that's good. He still refuses to eat the 8% carb food, so he's getting only 3% kitty crack.

The saga of the timed feeder continues. Last night, I didn't try it, because I felt really unsettled and was watching him closely. This morning after the usual routine, I filled it and set it for +2, then went back to bed. After I finally fell asleep around +1, he decided the join me. The feeder popped open on schedule, but he didn't have a clue! Slept through the whole thing. So before leaving for church, I filled it again.(by fill I mean a quarter of a can of FF) and set it for two hours later, making sure Mikey saw the whole thing. He camped out by the feeder, but apparently once I left, he gave up and went to bed. I came home to an open feeder and a sleeping cat. Stink'ear. The question now is, do I need to confine him to the spare bedroom with the feeder so he'll eat tomorrow? I hate to keep the guys away from each other all day, but what will happen if he doesn't eat the food? We're trying to find a way to attach a bell that would ring when it opens, but that will take some figuring and then some training, and I'm still not sure he'll wake up.

I hope everyone is having a great day today. I'm glad your mom is improving Marje. I'm heading up the attic to get a few decorations out. Not too much though, because I know what I put out I'll have to clean up. :-D

Mikey is definitely looking better these days and it's great he's clearing his bounces but not by diving!

    sorry to laugh but I've never heard of a cat sleeping through the timer right by them    I know I know...he's narcoleptic. I wonder if you could get an alarm that makes a really obnoxious sound that goes off right before the timer?

  The feeder actually doesn't make a sound when it opens, not that it would much matter with our narcoleptic! A timer might work. Do you think I should sequester him tomorrow, so I can be sure he eats while I'm at work?

Hi Nadine,

You're very close by. We used to take a ride down to Mystic to buy fudge in those little shops. Hope Tibbs is doing well too!

Just wondering what folks think about tomorrow when I'm at work. Should I confine Mikey to the spare bedroom, so I can make sure he eats? He won't like it, but I don't like leaving him, so we may both have to cope.

Batch #1 of Christmas cookies is done! They're a variety that has to age, so I make them early.

some cats will feed themselves when they feel their blood sugar going low - although i would guess that's low low, like under 50 for most. I don't have an answer for you. Punkin's acromegaly guaranteed an appetite and our feeder made a really loud noise as it rotated. Punkin would leap for it the second it moved.

I think it depends on your comfort zone. He doesn't look like he's showing any signs of going under 50 on this dose, but you never know. I like marje's idea of a companion alarm clock set to go off a few minutes before the feeder opens.

Thanks, Julie. Mikey is a sleepaholic, so he doesn't wake up easily. I'm going to look for an alarm that will go off before the feeder opens, but turn itself off. Unfortunately, he probably will roll right over and go back to sleep when it goes off! I'm going to have to train him by setting off the timer right before I give him food. He can be Pavlov's cat!

Mary, when we first got the timed feeder, we put all of punkin's meals in it while we were home. That way we could be confident that he was eating while we were home to intervene if we needed to. Once he got the hang of it, then he got all of his +3 meals from it to keep him in the habit of going there to eat.

It's hard to count on him eating from the feeder if you haven't actually seen it succeed while you are home.
