Happy Hump Day!! Sending more prayers out to Jill and Mike. And to dear MJ....so much sympathy and love.

Gracie is having some "interesting" cycles on her lev now. I think she is nadiring at about +15 from the previous cycle and then she gets her lev rise at about +4 of her current cycle and then onsets after +7 of her current cycle. It's pretty goofy but that looks like the pattern right now. Long and short...she is getting green nadirs and was down to 53 this morning on her 11th cycle. Last night she slept with her sweet little paws wrapped around my neck and her tiny nose nestled into my collarbone area....purr purr purr ....zzzzzzzzzz. Sweet baby girl. She and Tobes are both napping now.....they were absolutely wild last night before bedtime but that's good because then they sleep through the night.

If anyone is still interested in the presentation I gave to our vets yesterday, here is the link:
Presentation

When it opens, then click on "download original" in the upper right hand corner and you'll see it as I presented it. The google doc does not have the colors, etc. Also, on the original document, on the bottom right, there are three icons next to a % (which is the zoom). If you click on the far right one....it will show it one slide at a time as in a real powerpoint presentation.

Yesterday afternoon, Mike and I had to run over to our former vet's clinic to get some herbs for Gus that only they carry. The young receptionist there is the daughter of the CVT who has worked for Dr. M for 20+ years. Anyway, she told me that her 8 year old kitty was dxd with FD two weeks ago.....eats dry food, of course. I asked if they were hometesting, etc. She said her mom was doing it all because she couldn't bear to do it and then she went and got her mom the CVT. She told me that with 8 cats and the dogs, that she doesn't have alot of time. She said she hometested him a couple times but mainly just gave him 1u of lantus bid. I told her that she, of all people, should know better. I also told the daughter (who is in her early 20s) that Baby is her kitty and she needs to learn how to deal with his FD and how to test/shoot him. I told her I would help her and get her into FDMB but she also needs to very, very slowly move him from dry food to canned but she MUST monitor him because his numbers can drop suddenly. She said they can't feed him separately from the other cats and they all get dry. So....I just gave her my phone numbers and said when she is ready for help, I am here for her but that if she managed his FD correctly with the help of LL and moving him to low carb canned food slowly, there was the possibility he could get off insulin but as long as he was on dry....unlikely. I also told them both again how dangerous it was to be shooting him without testing him. AND.....that it would benefit all her cats to get them on low carb canned food. So...we'll see. Mike and I left just shaking our heads.

I'm working from home today and also still dealing with DM issues. Too long a story to address here. Hope you all have a great day.

Nice numbers today for Gracie! What a sweetheart :-D

Congrats on the presentation, sounds like it went really well. And I thought it was great - I learned a few things!

Re: 11/30 Gracie AMPS 92 +2 53 +3.5 73 +5 116

The magic 10th cycle strikes again! Very nice Gracie. As far as the new FD cat story, all I can say is I see why they are your "former" vet. @-) Hope you have a great day Marje.

Re: 11/30 Gracie AMPS 92 +2 53 +3.5 73 +5 116

And I'm shaking my head too. It would really make me wonder, if I hadn't already seen for myself. We walk into those places with a sick baby, scared out of our mind, trusting the professionals to guide us...Another long story we are all familiar with.

Great cycle for Gracie!

On behalf of all the sugar cats, thank you for shining the light of knowledge in your part of the world.

Re: 11/30 Gracie AMPS 92 +2 53 +3.5 73 +5 116

Nice numbers Miss Gracie!

I will never understand why people won't do simple things to help their pets. By simply changing the food she could make a big difference in the management of FD. My friend's sister put her cat down because of FD after years of not treating her appropriately. Boggles my mind.

Marje, I hope things settle down with your DM.

Re: 11/30 Gracie AMPS 92 +2 53 +3.5 73 +5 116 +7.5 170

Well...she continues these odd lev cycles and doing what she did last night. As long as she onsets here shortly and starts to come back down, I'm ok....well, I have to be ok with it even if she bounces since she was at 53 this morning.

Melissa: Oh...she is such a sweetheart!!

Anne: I was thinking that myself.....10th cycle???? last night...uh huh!! Now keep going Miss Gracie. Well, Dr. M is my former vet because she sold the clinic and moved to one too far away. I miss her but our new vets are awesome.

Linda: I know....crazy huh?

Rosalie: Thanks...hope so too.

Hi Marje,
Gracie's Lev. cycles are a challenge, that's for sure. I find it amazing that you can stay on top of it all and have such a good understanding of what is happening. Do you know why these cycles are what they are? Leave it to Gracie to show everyone what "unique" is!!

I re-read your presentation today and it is so helpful to have all this information in one place. You have done a fabulous job.

Amazing story of your old vet's colleague and her daughter's newly diagnosed kitty. You would think they would want to do everything they can for this kitty, especially since they apparently know what to do, but just don't want to trouble themselves. There is so much callousness in this world.

Have a good evening. Scritches for Gracie, Tobey and Gus. Tobey certainly charmed the vets yesterday!

Ella: I guess the thought is that when a kitty nadirs that late, that there is too much insulin BUT the good thing about it is if the kitty doesn't bounce, they get great overlap of cycles. I am not an expert on reading lev SSs by any means so what I think is going on with Gracie is just my studying her sheet and looking at her patterns. I'm glad you liked the presentation!! Thanks very much. I know on my old vet's CVT...it's a shame. Yes..Tobey..well he charms everyone!

Celi: actually the stank eye pic was in the presentation

So looks like little girl wants to bounce tonight!!

Your presentation is really great! :-D

I don't understand people either, at all. How about she just feed all the cats wet food? But what it comes down to is that most people will not do anything to inconvenience themselves when it comes to their pets. As soon as the pets get challenging, they are done. I do a lot of rescue work with cats and you would not believe some of the reasons people give for wanting to give up their pets. If a cat develops a disease like diabetes, forget it. People are actually shocked that I give insulin shots to my cat let alone test his bg several times every day. I also give fluids to my CRF foster cat every day and she just started on an inhaler for her asthma plus her pill for high blood pressure. Plus Sid gets eye drops multiple times every day. I do all this because it is what has to be done, what other choice is there? None. Her excuse that she is too busy to test the cat is ridiculous. I work full time plus do rescue work and I still manage to get my cats the home medical treatments they need and I am NOT a vet tech. Anyway, I know I am preaching to the choir here. Everyone on FDMB is amazing and the amount of love, medical care, and attention you all give your cats is such an inspiration to me.

Good evening, guys!! Am looking forward to looking through your presentation... how exciting that they want you to go on tour!!   As for the gal at the vet... I concur that a dose of Princess Gracie's stinkeye might be in order.

What is it with these wild child kitties? Last night Herbie had a SERIOUS case of the crazyeyes and was going at warp speed for a good two hours! Hopefully things are more mellow for all of us tonight!

Hugs from all of us!!

Christie: It's those crazy young girls and guys!!!!

I was going to visit condos tonight but have been on the phone almost all evening with DM's nurse and spent a lot of time on the phone today with her doctor's PA. We are trying to get her into skilled nursing for a few weeks. She has severe cellulitis in her legs and the meds they are giving her are causing horrible side effects like paranoia, confusion, plus upset stomach (because she forgets to take the ABs with food). I am really worried. I haven't had dinner yet....please forgive. I'm thinking of you all...very stressed about mom right now.

Oh wow Marje, sorry to hear that your mom is ill. Good luck getting her into a SNF, sounds like she needs a little extra help right now - and a new antibiotic! Hope you get some rest too,
Melissa

Oh Marje, so very sorry to read about all DM's troubles. It is very challenging to be far away when such crises occur. Perhaps Ms Gracie knows you need to focus on someone besides her for tonight and is giving you no cause for alarm with her numbers. We hope you are able to get the help and answers you need for DM.

Sending you a big one from us as we prepare for a foot+ of snow starting tomorrow through the weekend. :YMHUG:

Just short break for now Gracie, don't go picking up Tess bad habits lately. Very nice morning and you need aome time off.

I hope you get everything arranged for your DM. it's hard especially long distance.
