No more treats for her. :lol: Either that, or the bounce from the contraband FINALLY kicked in. :lol: All in all, though, she did get her dose reduction to 1.0u this morning, and will hold that for the next 7 days (unless she decides that she wants less between now and next Wednesday. :-D Purrs, preens, meows (like right now... Guess the bean's not quick enough to provide Miss Blackie her 2nd breffis... It's not time yet. Sheesh. :lol:) *sigh*

QUESTION: Found an error in my food amount calculations, and believe me, I feel extremely terrible knowing that I'm probably starving her to death. According to the calculations, she SHOULD be gettin 0.90 oz./meal, not 0.50 oz./meal. Can I give her the extra 0.40 oz. beginning today, or do I need to increase her food 0.10 oz. for a week to slowly go back up to 0.90 oz./meal? Calculations: 13.6x10 lbs.+70 = 206 calories/day; 206 / 38.2 (calories per ounce in a 13.2 oz. can of Evo 95% C&T) = 5.4 / 6 meals = 0.90 oz./meal

Found an error in my food calculations. Posted a question at the beginning of this condo. I am feeling extremely bad for this. Should be giving her 0.90 oz./meal, and not 0.50 oz./meal. Can I give her the other 0.40 oz. immediately today, or do I need to bring her up slowly by increasing 0.10 oz. each week?

Hi Angela,
That's a good question! Is Blackie losing weight now? I think it would probably be safest to increase the amount of food gradually. You don't want to put extra stress on her system and we all know that what seem to be insignificant changes can have an impact on FD. Good luck!

Blackie's numbers look really good.

I think the amount of food is dependent on Blackie's weight. If she's maintaining a good weight on the amount that you're feeding, I'd leave it as is. If she needs to gain, then I'd increase the amount slowly. Remember, just like with people, how much Blackie needs to maintain a healthy weight depends on any number of factors.

FWIW, I would not be decreasing Blackie's dose by 0.25u. She's a long term diabetic and your pre-shot numbers are blue. I'd consider shaving the dose.

I figured on increasing her food amount slowly anyway, considering she's a slow kitty. So, that's what I'll do. According to Dr. Lisa, a female cat should weigh anywhere from 10 - 11 lbs. As it is, Blackie IS 10.5 lbs., but I'm only giving her 0.50 oz./meal, instead of 0.90 oz./meal. Since I've made an error in calculations, what I'm actually doing is not good for her. Right now, here's the calculation that I'm currently feeding:

13.6x3.5+70=117.6
117.6 divided by 38.2=3.07 oz./day

NOT good. So, the new calculation should be this, which I will be feeding her starting this evening:

13.6x10+70=206
206 divided by 38.2=5.3926
5.4 divided by 6 meals = 0.90 oz. meal

The 38.2 is the amount of calories per ounce in a large 13.2 oz. can of Evo 95% Chicken & Turkey, which has a grand total of 504.2 calories in the entire can (according to the label). I just need to increase the calories a bit more. I'm just glad that I thought to check now.

If Blackie's weight is stable and at a place where you want her weight to be, you are feeding her enough. If she's too skinny, then give her more. Every creature's metabolism is different. Ask Marje about Gracie. Gracie doesn't eat a great deal but is at a good weight.

She's lost 1 lb. in almost a month. I'll hold giving her 0.60 oz. for a week, and recheck her weight. The other day, my DH and I noticed that she was a bit too skinny on her waistline. I know that she likes the extra amount. :lol:
