Good Morning ~O) ~O) ~O)

Zeus likes the rainbow kitty look, blue, pink, yellow, blue, green, blue, yellow. Two late nights, I need some coffee and some aspirin  other than that all is good in Zeus land.

Smokey on the other hand, was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I read some stuff on Dr. Lisa's website last night before I crashed. Our vet gave us Methimazole, which has the potential for some yucky side effects according to what I read (I guess everything has that potential). I hope Smokey can take the meds without side effects. She is 16ish, maybe 17... But has been acting like a kitten again playing with her toys, and my sneakers... More specifically the shoelaces, it is kind of funny to watch. She is showing signs of her age though, especially when getting up.

Hope everyone has a great day. Kitties, you all need to show good safe numbers today, ok? Hugs,
Kathie

Good morning Kathie! ~O) ~O) ~O)

Looks like Zeus is trying out all the colors, sigh, fickle kitties! At least the AMPS isn't pink.

I'm sorry to hear about Smokey. I don't know much about what's involved and I hope it's not a big deal. But it's nice to hear that she's acting like a kitten and chasing shoelaces! That's great! Well, at 16 she's allowed to show her age, as long as she's still a happy kitty, everything is good. have a good day!

At least we stayed in the yellows today. But darn it, first I poked myself with the needle then I gave a fur shot   darn, darn, darn! I hope Zeus decides to stay in the yellows without the juice. Fingers crossed! So mad at myself!!!

Hope you all are having a good evening.... Kitties, behave tonight, OK?

Hugs,
Kathie

hi Kathie

my civie - Monster(9) - was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with hyperthyroidism and an enlarged heart (as a result).

Suggest you check out a yahoo group - http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/feline-hyperT/
It seems to work similar to this forum, in as much as everyone shares experiences and there are a couple of 'experts' who can interpret the blood work for you and recommend dosage - the start low approach.
I took Monster down from the level originally prescribed by the vet but I've just upped it after his 2nd round of blood work.

There are possible side affects to the Methimazole - vomitting, diarrhea and itchiness, particularly on the face which can get so bad the meds have to be stopped. Starting low may help the kitty get used to the med and possibly avoid the side affects.

Hoping Smokey does well and Zeus comes down nicely this evening.
Denise

Hi Kathie,
Sorry about you poking your own self and the fur shot. Some days we're just not supposed to get out of bed. :thumbup Hang out in those yellows Zeus.. no pinks please. Be finished being little mr. rainbow man.

Oh, little Smokey... I hope she has no side effects from her medicine. (little extra prayer for her toite) Thank heavens - no matter what happens to a kitty, someone here has dealt with it and has good information to pass along.

Get some good sleep tonight and get rid of the yacky old headache.

Ugh... 390 at +6  I'm so sorry Zeus! Please don't go too much higher, ok buddy?

Hi Lisa, yes - Smokey has earned the right to show her age. She is a good kitty. I only inherited her a couple of years ago, she was my Aunt's cat. Prior to coming to live with me, she was an outdoor cat.... And had a rough go of it. Something took part of her butt off once and that was her last time out.

Thanks for the link Denise. I tried to join, just waiting for the moderator to approve me.

The vet said that Smokey has a heart murmur, a 3 on a scale of 1 - 6. Her heart was beating way faster than what they normally see in the office. She hates her carrier, the car and especially the vets office, so I wasn't surprised, Poor girl. I did read those side effects as well, and was worried about the itchiness.... She already gets itchy skin, especially in the winter. Last winter she pulled out the fur at the base of her tail, and along both sides of the spine. The vet gave her prednisone shots.

Oh Mary, you are so right... I probably shouldn't have gotten out of bed ;-) Thank you for the prayers, we so appreciate them

I crashed on the couch about 4 hours ago, at about +2  I am only awake because of the trusty alarm clock. I knew Zeus would be high because of the fur shot, but still felt I should get a test. I am going btb now. I hope tomorrow will be better.

Thanks everyone for dropping by. Hope the kitties are showing good safe numbers. Hugs and vines to all,

Kathie

Monster's heart rate was also way high - that's what made me take him to the vet.

They did an x-ray and compared it to one taken in January and it showed the heart was enlarged.
He had an echocardiogram a week later but its likely the heart's condition is due to the hyperthyroidism and will resolve once that is regulated. He was also started on atenolol (beta blocker - my Mum used to take it :-D ).

Hope Zeus slows down and is back to normal tomorrow.
