Yesterday was ....... RAINBOW KITTY day in MannieLand. I SWEAR that dosecrease threats work! or... another testimonial for patience does work. It was a nice day for him, a bit extreme in that we hit all colors..... It was great to see him find the greens - it has been a while... Rumor has it that the Blue Mannie Group was found jammin' live in NYC, with a guest appearance by the Rainbow Bandit. .. I hear too that the party ended up at the green Lagoon. Well done Mannie!!! I sure like those blues and greens. Maybe we can try for that again today. Lubs ya big guy! cat_pet_icon

When thinking about the rainbow bandit I could not help but remember a post written by Christie of Christie and Willie sometime ago when Mannie was being that Rainbow Bandit over and over again... I thought I'd share it. if only becasue it is so darn funny. Thankyou Christie for your sense of humor!
RAINBOW BANDIT STRIKES AGAIN

Regular posters to the Feline Diabetes Message Board (FDMB) experienced again today what has become a frequent experience in their domain. A cat named Mannie once again showed such bouncing numbers that the beans on the board were baffled once again by his ability to show such rapid increases and decreases in blood glucose. Dubbed "The Rainbow Bandit," Mr. Mannie deftly demonstrated the power of Lantus insulin and left many practically speechless in his wake. At times, his movements were so stealthy, they could barely be detected, but were made obvious by his "signature," a trail of nanners. If you see this cat standing near a cliff or bungee jumping apparatus, you are asked to, for the love of god, do all you can to keep him there. However, if you are in a position to approach, do not make contact with the nanners or other toys, as it could create for a dangerous situation. This cat, if provoked in such a manner, should be considered armed and dangerous.

All is well in MannieLand. :-D :-D WHAT A DAY! the green lagoon! AND! A DGS and Mannie moment... This was so sweet. DGS is usually eating breffis when I do one of Mannie's tests. I always stop by the table when I get Mannie, so they can share a moment or two. Today Nicholas offered Mannie a raspberry, which of course was a no go. DUH. :roll: :lol: :lol: And then Nicholas reached over to pet Mannie, leaned n real close and kissed him on the lips. :shock: :shock: :cool: :cool: :cool: :cool: ANd Mannie just sat there and purred. UNREAL! if it had been any one of my other cats I would not have let him try for fear of claw retaliation, but not Mannie. I knew he'd be as gentle as he was. WOW on it all. Kitty kisses! :-D This morning we had a great test, feed and shoot and clean plate club , purrs and lots of cuddles. Normalcy in MannieLand.

BP MEDS: I wanted to update everyone on Mannie's Dx of Hypertension. My vet and the cardiologist had their consult, and both are of the opinion that Mannie needs to be on Meds for Hypertension. SO.... I will pick that up today and start sometime today. They will put him on half tablet of Lodapine (SP???) to start, with monitoring every 10 days until we find the right dose for him.

Have a great day everyone. I am back on DGS duty for the week. Today will be a swim day for Nicholas, and then hopefully we can find a nice outdoor spot, maybe the beach, or a creek today if it is not too cold, or wet, and if we have time to travel. Not too sure at this point if that will be doable or not. I will try and get to condos when I can, but probably not until late in the evening. There is just no time when he is here.. I will miss you guys - and your furkids. Think blue think green kitties!

I so lubs it there, I have the party bus all set to go, with extra fleece for everyone. Rusty says there is snow in the mountains. I so hope we can go and see. And completely OT: Here are some photos from DGS's and my adventures yesterday: swimming: a long solid morning of swimming, and a local beach. He was in that water for two hours, and even then I had to drag him out. What a great time for him. It was another day of non-stop motion. He loves to jump in, once again it was over and over and over.... The beach was great, cold, but great! What an "Awwwww..." moment. Where was your camera?

I think the BP med you're referring to is amlodipine (Norvasc). It's a class of drug called a calcium channel blocker and is popular for both humans and cats. You might want to price shop at your vet vs. a discount drug store (e.g., Costco).

Morning Michelle, and I remember the "Rainbow Bandit" writing from Christie & Willie, what a great piece of writing and describes Mannie's bouncing days so well! I miss those two but do see her online occasionally. Oh boy, a raspberry, that's a new one Mannie, from the little one! :lol: I guess it was a no go, huh! Ask for the chicken or animal crackers today. How sweet, a kiss right on the lips, and Mannie so sweet. Those two are really great pals.
Good luck with the b/p meds, and sounds like they are on top of things.

And how cute on the DGS...That Nicholas is such a sweet boy...And Mannie...well, Mannie has patience and love for him, that's for sure! It's like a boy and his dog, but it's a boy and his grammie's cat! Lucky you, Michelle!

The Kitty's will be partying pretty hard tonight..It's also a lunar eclipse tonight! I'll let Spot know about the party, I'm sure he will be excited to see all his friends again.

Sorry to hear that Mannie has to be on more meds, but you have to do whatever you can to keep him healthy....guess you got to cut down on all the salt in his food ;-) ...Hear that Mannie....salt sense is good!!!

LOL on the raspberry - Mannie was not impressed. LOVED the kitty kisses - it was really cute. THX on the meds - I hope so. it will be a few vetty visits and rechecks to find the right dose, oh boy on that.... so so wish I could test at home. Oh well, hopefully we will get lucky and find the right one early on.

Morning Deb ~O) ~O) ~O) Hey Thanks on DGS and Mannie. I am lucky - what pals. It has been fun watching those two grow as pals, Nicholas learning how to be gentle, and care for a kitty, an old kitty. Been great! WOW -forgotten was an eclipse too - that for sure will make for an exceptional kitty party. I will have to remember to watch for the eclipse. - they are so fascinating. Yupp, on the more meds... oh well,we do what we need to so he feels good. I hope it will make a difference for him. I am so used to his being so laid back - he always has - i wonder what i will get now... LOL on the salt - an OH OH for a chef... :lol: :lol: :lol: and YES on that article - Christie really has a knack for writing!

Thank you for the hot chocolate options. Yes, extra whip and chocolate sprinkles will be great! Gotta love the chocolate and sugar. I know, you can't have sugar, so I'll sacrifice and have it for you.

Thanks for offering to let me borrow your trampoline so I can see out the window. Unfortunately that won't help. My eye sight started to go away last year/earlier this year and now I cannot see anything, only what I remember. Mom took me to the eye doctor and he examined my eyes the same way mom gets hers looked at and instead of getting a cool pair of glasses like mom has, he told mom that I was blind and probably had been for a while. I tried to keep it a secret and not let her know, but she noticed that I walked into the walls and got concerned. I couldn't use the excuse that I was drunk, since she doesn't let me near the alcohol! The vetty bean said I had something called PRA and it was in my jeanieology and nothing could be done to fix it. He said that my dire beasties had nothing to do with it, it was my birth meowme's fault and that it doesn't hurt and happened gradually.

Now that mommy is used to it, she helps me not walk into walls, she yells out WALL MAUI and I stop and turn. But mommy likes to play tricks on me, she moves things so I can't find them and then I walk on things that don't belong. She thinks it's a very funny game.

But I get even. I make mommy serve me my food in bed, on the sofa or the chair, wherever I decide is a good nappy spot, I stay there all day and wait for mommy to serve me. She wants to make sure I eat.....ha ha

And don't feel bad that I can't see, it's really ok and I get around just fine. As long as mommy doesn't put obstacles in my way.

And mommy says rainbows are very pretty, I remember them, but she said they are not pretty on you, and you look better in aqua. Can you wear that instead of the rainbow?

Hey Michelle...Mario is on amlodipine, too. He's the only experience I have with BP meds, but our vet started him on a quarter tablet once a day, then rechecked in two weeks. We ended up doing quite a bit of juggling with his dose, but at the moment he's on a quarter tablet twice a day, following the same schedule as Trix, and he still goes back every few months for a recheck.

Like I said, Mario is my only experience...but are they suggesting Mannie get half a tablet once a day? It seems to me like that might be an awful lot to start on. The pills are super cheap, even at the vet, so I never did shop around for a better price like I've done with other meds. Also, you'll want a a decent pill splitter...the tablets are pretty tiny and do not like to split neatly! I got my most recent splitter at Target, and it's actually quite good, but I still endup with losing/crushing parts of pills sometimes. Since these pills are so tiny, pill pockets work perfectly.

Have fun with DGS today!!! I'm sure you're going to need a vacation at the end of this run :lol: !!!

Hi Amy - thanks so much for your take on the BP stuff.It helps to have another beans experiences. This is all new to me. I will be picking up the meds this afternoon, after I drop DGS off with his dad. I really can't remember what the vet said last night, short of 1/2 tablet per day - maybe she splits it out: AM, PM . She said she'd explain it all when I get the meds. sure hope so. :shock: ;-) I know I have to have him rechecked in 10 days. Yes, have the pill cutter - got that for the plavix, as it is impossible to but without one. Thanks for everything! And yes, you are right - I will so need a vacation at the end of these two weeks:OMG: non-stop action with him. :shock: :lol: :lol:

oh and Mannie, have you seen my red wagon? I know it was used for a party this summer and I can't find it anywhere. Mom swears she isn't moving around the place.

and why are you red today? are you too hot? you need to cool off, how about a detour to florryda and a quick swim in the ocean, i will wait on the sand for you. i so love to dig in the litterbox at home, a huge litterbox is perfect for a kitty to get lost in....but promise you will escort me out or i will have no choice but to hit you. and yes i have very good aim, just ask buster - i hit her all the time.

when I took her to the eye doctor, he said to me that Maui is already used to being blind, I just had to get used to it now. and he confirmed that there is no pain associated with this and it's an inherited disease with no way to slow it down or prevent it from happening. it can happen with people too. it's called progressive retinal atrophy. so my guilt at not paying attention to it sooner was assuaged. and her pupils still contract and dilate which made me think that she could still see, but vet assured me she can't, the retinas are totally detached.

Hi Michelle - boy, I try to get to condo's early the last couple days and I'm off to work before I see yours! Molly is on the same BP med - she gets 1/4 tab once a day. She's been checked a couple times since then, and they say she's slightly high but ok. She HATES getting pills, and she knows when there is a pill in a treat. She's fussy about eating anyway so we crush it in some gravy and give it to her. She doesn't get it all down, but apparently enough that it does a decent job.

I love the Rainbow Bandit!!! And Mannie's spectacular night! Wow! Thanks for putting up your surfing foods. Leo's going up tonight and I've been playing around with the surfing. I think I need to be a little more aggressive than I have in the past to keep him from earning a reduction right away. You sure worked it, girl!

not much one can say about any of this... :sad:

Nicholas and I had a really nice day today. We only went swimming. He was so into it all, so wnated to stay and keep on swimming that I just let him. 2.5 hours on non-stop swim and play. By the time he ate and got home he was so ready for a nap. I laid him down, and he was out in seconds. One tired happy little boy. We just did not have any time for anything else, and by then it was a monsoon outside anyways. :lol: I will post some photos in Mannie's condo tomorrow.

Hi Lisa, Leo too! - Thanks on the BP stuff - makes me feel better that others are familiar with it. I've asked about the dosage for Mannie - they till want him at 1/2 tablet. so I guess that is what we do. He will be checked next Saturday. Too funny about having to crush it in gravy... go Molly! I hope we don't have problems getting this one into hi,. The Plavix is easy, I hope this is too. Me too on the rainbow bandit. There were threes stories she did total... all of them great. Hey thanks on last night and the surfing foods. I try to keep him even, even if it means HC fuds, just to keep a steady line no low greens - sometimes it works, other times not so good. --- and I know! I asked him the same thing - WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN EATING!!! He said Leo goes there, thought I'd try it out. :lol: :lol: Darn cats - giving us BLACK numbers....

Hi Wendy - oh no on Neko - I so hope that the back floor is not seen in your neck of the woods.... Don't go there Neko, please! LOL on the being tire reading DGS stuff. I will admit, it is non-stop, and very busy. HE seems to thrive on it, I get used to it, and off we go. By then end of the week however I am totally fried... :lol: :lol: ya know - sometimes it is as good as a hike. on the days when we are outside we walk along ways... not too bad for a 2 yr old. :-D

Hi Hillary - It must have been a hard adjustment for you. I know it would be for me. For Maui I suspect the vet was right - she was so used to it. Morning Ella - no worries on he lateness of it all - I was so tired last night I never made it to anybody's. I hope your day was a good one. Yupp on DGS and Mannie - that kiss was so cute. very very cool on the 2 years. I will have to remember to mention that in your condo today. I so remember when he came to be with you.
