Okay folks,
I'm either being my usually panicky self or Shadow is declining.

I just can't tell.
I called this morning to set up another ultrasound.... ( dec 12)

She's been really iffy to get to eat.
I thawed out the beef liver I have for the liver shake. I bought chicken livers at the store. ( last time they didn't have chicken)

and I studied the big food list for something just a notch above her usual to see if just getting a new variety would spark some interest.
She barely touched her food last night but ate some freeze dried pieces.

This morning she ate her 1/4 can of breakfast.... then 2nd breakfast was just a nibble.
I had to leave so I ran and grabbed an egg and gave her the yolk. She gobbled all of the yolk. ( yay!)

I bought her some fancy feast elegant medleys chicken Florentine with greens and delicate sauce and she just went crazy for that.
She usually eats 8 to 10% carbs.... so I wasn't to scared to try this chicken Florentine at 12 or 13%.

I sure as heck need a medical scanner ( like on star trek) so I could know if she's just being THAT Picky :YMSIGH: or her pylorus is getting
thicker. nailbite_smile

lately , all the additives aren't helping her to eat her usual variety....
bonita flakes, freeze dried raw turkey, freeze dried cooked turkey, fortiflora, freeze dried salmon, even bacon
and she's getting ondansetron and cyproheptadine.
Does Cypro build up a tolerance and need increasing ?

I've been having to pull out the raw shrimp and cut it tiny and mix it in her food and she still leaves some.
That's what I had to feed her when she was on the juice.

One day at a time... I say.... confused_cat
looks like the liver may go in the trash tonight... ( the beef I thawed out)
I'm just so scared that her pylorus is thickening and she suddenly won't be able to eat.

Rhiannon - my Indian name is still "grasps at straws"

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

Rhiannon, I'm so sorry. I hope she's just being picky and she'll eat more for you. Sending prayers and hugs. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

Rhiannon, I too, hope Shadow's just being a little pee-pot. After all, she did eat the yummy egg yolk, and yummy FF chicken.
I really feel for you....it's so upsetting when your baby can't or won't eat the way you want her to.

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

(((Rhiannon))), sorry, no answers, just support. :YMHUG: Whatever she will eat is good. Scritches from me to Shadow.

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

I wish I knew, too :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: ...they CAN be fussy little furbombs sometimes, but it would sure help us if they could talk! I don't know about the cypro...maybe include that in your subject like to get more attention from folks who use it.

Eat up, Shadow!!!

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

Yes, they can build up a tolerance and need increases in the Cypro. We did very small increases for our guy as he started getting less of an effect.

Sending hugs to you and vines to Shadow.

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

well she's gobbling up the 12 and 13%... at least I hope, this purina one smartblend savory chicken with gravy is 13%.
it doesn't say smartblend on dr .lisa's chart.

But this eager eating seems to indicate taste buds not pylorus getting tighter.
I'll have to go back to checking her bg frequently to see how this is doing and I'll go back to the store and get more ff Florentine chicken.
she's turning up her nose at the one she would still eat.... ff chicken and liver pate.

so it's good that she will eat something....
it's just bad that she's moving up the carb scale.
Plus if it is cancer, I'm just feeding it carbs.
I rarely have any luck getting her to eat zero and low carbs.....
What a junkie!

I'm glad she turned out to be one who needed some to have low numbers. But I sure don't know what that threshold is for her. nailbite_smile

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

{{{Rhiannon}}}

I'm so sorry. I've been so wrapped up in my own issues, I didn't know what was going on with Shadow. I hope it isn't the big C. Paws crossed.

Sorry, since I haven't been following you lately, I don't know this - have you asked your doctor about Mirtazapine? If Shadow is building up a tolerance for Cypro, maybe Mirtz will work. It sure helped Minka.

When you mentioned the egg yolk, did you cook it? I can't imagine a cat eating it raw, but then I can't imagine eating a mouse, either!

Sending lots of healing vines, prayers and hugs. :YMHUG:

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

i'm sorry Shadow's having more appy issues. Way to go with getting her to eat the chicken florentine. i love these gourmet names they come up with, although gotta say it does sound yummier than chicken and spinach. ;-)

Sending mega-healing vines to miss shadow. :YMHUG:

do you still check her BGs every now and then?

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

Tricia, it was a raw egg.

Julie, I do still check her bg....I just haven't posted them in her chart in a long time....
I've been meaning to do that.... they are all stored in her meter.... and I should copy them down before the battery dies.

She's usually in the 70's or 90's.
The budesonide raises her up above 120 occasionally.

with the enlarged lymph nodes.... and lack of ibd symptoms..... no vomiting, no diarrhea...
my vet says very likely lymphoma.... and we can do the biopsy or exploratory surgery to find out what kind BUT they think it would make her miserable. She shuts down when she's at the vets.
And it wasn't kind to her to put her thru an invasive surgery if it really is cancer because of going thru the healing process....all to prolong it.
the stomach isn't a fun surgery regardless.... if she's on her way to the bridge. (please take the slow road, Shadow)
They think I should just leave her be, enjoy our remaining time and let her go without putting her thru more. ( how many vets tell you
not to spend the money? )
She's had a hard life with surgeries and her pelvis/femur pains that are increasing.

Sending Appetite Vines and Feel Better Vines to Shadow, and Hugs to You.

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

I have been distant from the boards so I'm just now catching up. I do hope Shadow turns things around. Sending strength, healing, appy and calming vines to your neck of the woods!!

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

Just sending a few more lovely vines for Shadow. Rhiannon, hang in there! You're doing all that you can in a difficult situation.

Have a happy Thanksgiving. Maybe use turkey liver to make a liver shake for Shadow?

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

I hope Shadow is eating better. Sending her healing vines and some comfort vines for you, Rhiannon.

Re: 11/25 Shadow - good and bad

Rhiannon and Shadow,

Hoping that the morning and Thanksgiving is awakening Shadow's appetite and that you've been able to get some rest, Rhiannon. Clare's a picky eater and likes Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken and Beef just now. It's 3% and has lots of bits of things in it.

Sending lots of hugs and skritches,

Georgette and Clare

well....
since I got her these new 12% two varieties....

She is eating every time.

I smell a turkey. and I don't mean Thanksgiving. ;-)
last night she was at 81....

Happy
Thanksgiving everyone. We don't have turkey.... just ham and prime rib.

Hi Rhianna.. so happy to hear Shadow is eating something! Sending lots of hugs to the both if you.
