I gave Frip his shot this morning... I think the 202 at +9 might be caused by the 2 tbsp of dry DM I'm still giving him before we go to bed... We don't see that during the day since he eats only wet food.. I may try to lower that to 1.5 tbsp next week.

I should be so happy Frip is doing so good but Grip is not good and my focus is all on him now...

I gave Grip his sub-Q NaCl this morning... I thought I'd suggest I could do that myself during the week-end (since I'm used to giving insulin)!!! but WOW .. ohmygod_smile those are HUGE syringes!!! 120 ml (4 oz) twice daily... and the needle is HUGE compare to the little one I use for Frip... At least it's just until Monday/Tuesday... He didn't like it too much... Now he's at the vet, we're trying a last tube of Laxatone... (5th one since Tuesday).. Still hoping he can avoid that surgery on Monday... My vet is closed on Sundays... Going to pick him up in an hour.. cat_pet_icon Poor baby, hope he can relax a little until Monday.. He's all nervous now when I pick him up.. I think he's been to the doctor more often this past week than in his whole life (10 years once a year)... The vet is not sure it's a hairball yet but everything is pointing to that... we'll see the test results on Monday...

Sylvie, the dry DM is certainly the culprit. Can I ask why you are giving him the dry? You can leave wet food out for him overnight, just add some water to it or freeze it and leave cubes out to thaw. If I were you, I would get rid of the dry completely ASAP.

Sending healing vines for Grip....poor baby, I don't blame him for being nervous.

nice #s for Frip! happy Caturday!

i do know all about the subq....been giving it to Rocket since May08! he is on 150 cc daily....Rocket's weight fluctuates between 7.15-7.45 kgs....he used to be at one point (+3 yrs ago 9 kgs).....but with his CRF he's lost weight...anyhow....they do sense your nervousness so to make things easier you need to relax and be calm about the whole subq thing....i know the needles are huge...i have Terumo 20GX1" UTW....those are better than the 18 monoject....not sure which one you are using...

i give him treats while doing the subq session and also i warm the fluids up in the bathroom sink....not sure if you know that too....fluids are by nature cold so going under the skin it's uncomfortable...so warming them up helps quite a bit....
hope this site helps you http://www.weirdstuffwemake.com/weird/s ... juice.html

good luck

Frip is a little high tonight… maybe the shrimps or he didn’t eat enough this evening?
Laurie, I keep the 2tbsp dry DM because it really is the highlight of his day.. They ate only dry for 10 years…. I’ll reduce it ½ tbsp a week until I see blue regularly in the morning. I also leave LC FF out at night.

Thanks Claudia, that site was very helpful and beautiful… I warmed the bag tonight and it went a lot easier (thanks for the info)… My mom is here also, she held him while I inserted the needle (he only complained a little on the last 4th one). The needle is a winged infusion set 21GA… Grip ate 5 shrimps for supper and 10 Temptations when I gave Frip's injection.. It’s an improvement... cat_pet_icon He’s normally such a big eater/kitty.. He was 10.5Kg (23 pounds) 2 weeks ago, lost 1.5 pounds since. Think we managed to get rid of a small portion of the furball (hopefully ?).. but I don't know if that will be enough...

Oh Sylvie, I understand the attraction of the dry food, it's what I always fed my kitties too! In fact, I have one civie who refuses to eat enough wet food to maintain her weight, even after 6 months of trying to transition her. I keep a bowl of dry food up on top of the entertainment center...too high for Tinkles to get to....because of her. I just bought a bag of EVO to try to at least get her to eat lower carb dry food, we'll see how that goes!

However...I would really encourage you to try to eliminate the dry completely if possible. Failing that, I would consider offering the lowest carb dry you can... EVO (8%). The DM is Purina DM, I assume? If so, it's 13%, which isn't horrible...but it's higher than I would want to see you use, and it is certainly affecting his numbers. It may not be as much of an issue with a cat that will be insulin dependent forever, but I truly think that Frip is on his way to OTJ, and the dry food may very well prevent that from happening. I respect your decision to continue to feed the dry if you choose to, but I wanted to give you my thoughts about it and see if you might reconsider.

Continuing to send healing and eating vines for Grip...
