So Doogle was having a good day. Got home this afternoon and not 30 mins after I got in, Doogle tore into one of the other cats. I mean a stray/feral cat fight. We couldnt barely break them up. But when we did, Doogle ran off and then jumped on another cat. When I finally got him to stop, he was so mad he was still poofy. Doogle ran off downstairs to the garage and hid out so I couldnt check him out. The other cats are fine I think, except for chunks of hair gone. So while he settled, we went and grabbed a bite to eat (for about an hour or less) came in and checked his BG and as I expected, he jumped to 306. So was able to look at Doogle and he has two small spots where it looks like one or both cats got him. Looks like they ripped the skin in a small spot on him tummy and a small puncture on his thigh. I cleaned it the best I could and put neosporin on it but I am sure he will stay higher tonight. We have no idea what got into him. The DH said he was fine all day till I got home. The only thing I can think of is I brought in a box from school and we have a cat that lives in the school and he jumped in the box. So unless Doogle was really upset that his Momma had the smell of another cat on a box I have no idea then. I have come home many times with another cat smell on me and never got this reaction. Should I get some antibiotics for Doogle just in case? Just as a per caution? If so, what should I ask for? I have to go to the vet tomorrow and get Scrappy. He was neutered today and tested (he has FIV). So I cant bring him inside. Scrappy also has a broken ankle that is starting to heal but the vet said he cant splint it. I am just so upset about Doogle fighting today. I have NEVER seen him like that. I can tell he doesnt feel well now because he doesnt want to do much at all except sleep.

The problem with cat bites and scratches is they can easily become infected or abscessed. I'd watch him closely tonight and if they swell, I'd try to put some ice packs on them. Since you are going to the vet tomorrow, I'd ask about A/Bs. I hope you don't have any problem reintroducing the cats to each other. The behavior you describe is called "displacement" meaning something else set him off and he took it out on the other resident cats. I'm sure you were scared...

I was terrified! I have never seen Doogle act like that. He has always been the sweet one and the funny one. I will ask tomorrow when I pick up Scrappy. Scrappy isnt an indoor cat. He is one that we take care of after he was abandoned after the tornadoes came through in January. So as much as I hate to do it, he will go back outside. I just hope he will take up to living in the cat house I got for him. So what I should ask for is A/Bs? Is it an antibiotic?

AB is our shorthand for an antibiotic. The vet will tell you what's appropriate and how to care for the wound. You may want to call ahead. You vet may want to see Doogle.

Yeah, the DH is going to call in the morning. Poor baby, you can tell he is not happy. I am sure his hip hurts from the small puncture. Had to put a little incentive on his food to get him to eat. I will update tomorrow when we get home. I really hope this doesnt affect his BG to bad...but I know it will for a few days.

Re: 11/26Doogle PMPS 400

I'd also ask the vet how long to wait before getting an FIV test for Doogle if Scrappy bit him.

Re: 11/26Doogle PMPS 400

No worries on that.....Scrappy never got near any of the indoor kitties. Doogle fought with our Siamese Simon and our black kitty Zoe. Scrappy is a stray and we took him on Friday. I just take care of him :)
