Damn damn damn. She didn't take the pill last night (and things had been going so well!) and has not so far this morning. She also vomited and her crap is looking looser. I suppose it could be that my husband gave her a fair amount of turkey yesterday, but I am worried that we gave her last dose of Flagyl on Wed night, so maybe this is a recurrence (my family are all staying here till tomorrow!). So I gave her a dose of Flagyl this morning and will call the covering vet later (mine is not in today).
I do not know what to expect about her eating today. She did eat some food during the night.

Sorry to start off the day as a downer.

I've heard that pumpkin can help firm up her poo. Tell her it's pie.

I wouldn't drop back that much, you don't want to loose momentum. I was going to say .8u but if she's not eating well, you could split the difference and go with .7u.

I hope it's just all the excitement from the holiday and she starts feeling better.

Thanks, Robin. I think I will go with the .7 because I am very concerned about her eating. If the flagyl kicks in and her eating improves, I can increase some tonight.

I have two that do that Harley & Chase, I've always thought they were trying to determine where the water level was before they stuck their face in. They have stainless steel bowls so I figured it was hard to see the water.

But this is entirely new for Squamee. I would not be concerned if she had always done it. Have your 2 always done it? I was wondering if it could mean she is having trouble seeing.

I don't think they have always done it but they have been doing it for quite a while now.

Harley does have cataracts (sp) but Chase also does it when I turn on the faucet for him, he pats the stream of water befor he drinks. Oh my gosh, I hope they don't need glasses.

Have the vet check her eyes when you go next week.

Judy,
Our Coons do that all the time. I was just writing about that - how we ask for the dog bowl for water when they are boarded/hospitalized for whatever reasons. Some cats are just strange about water. I had to give H his water in a bowl with a large, non-skid base or it would end up all over my kitchen.

I've even heard F growl at his water  The though may be that he is seeing his reflection in it??

I don't think there is any harm mentioning it to the vet but personally it would not be something that would get me too surprised. From my experience it is just something some cats do.

There might also be something to the push and pull of desire vs ability with the drinking. Frustration or something I don't know. It's hard to say since they can't talk.

My family are all here--it is a madhouse. I will do my best to test her around +12 (9 pm my time). I am assuming she is going to go up a lot more. I gave her the Flagyl this AM and she is eating and not vomiting. I will give her another dose tonight---so that her eating will be less of a concern during the night tonight.

My Charlie bats at the water occasionally, but my Darla always does it before drinking. I always thought it helped her judge where the water level was in the bowl by making ripples in it. She does it in every style of bowl we've tried....makes quite a mess!

She has not vomited today, seems to be eating better-- tho I have not tried to give her a pill yet--don't know if her refusal last night and this morning was because she was nauseous, or is a new stage.

So ----do I stick with this dose? or go up to .8?

I would go to .8u and here is why.

On 11/23 she had a great curve on .8 with a bg of 331, that is only 11 points higher than she is now. She recovered from the bounce within 2 days. After she hit 114 she recovered by the next day. Her liver is getting used to seeing better numbers.

Assuming no appetite or other anomalies, I'd do .75u because at this type number you would like just a hair faster drop than the last cycle of -15 points. I know a .05 increment isn't in the picture so you could up to .8 and she *might* drop just a hair too fast [or maybe just the right amount] which would be OK because you could just back off a hair the next cycle. With .9 most recently you got a drop of -84 points which is just a hair too fast but still pretty OK in that situation. So .8 might work out OK. And technically .7u did bring her down today so it might work to bring her down just a hair tonight too but the curve today was a little shallow. And as always I'd like to see her out of the 300's. Those are my thoughts. Not crystal clear I know but just some thinking.

I'm so happy you are getting input from Robin and you can have her perspective as another way of looking at things. :thumbup I know my thinking is sometimes a little too numbery.

Thanks, guys. I shot .8. Now at +3 she is 242. Still rejecting the pill, but I think she is eating normally. ---A little hard to tell because is was so busy here this evening. Good night and see you in the morning. I hope to shoot around 9am my time. Hope you will be around. Robin has been wonderful and it's also great to have you home, Gator. I much appreciate a perspective from both of you---you are a great team!
