Still some struggles this morning with the amount of blood with the Relion. I get the perfect drop and then he wiggles and it gets on my hand, sleeve, etc. :banghead:

He didn’t mind the paw pad at first, but seems to prefer the ear these days. It’s a work in progress but we’ll get there!

I keep Bella's ear in my hand until I test her. I poke, insert the tab, then "milk" her ear (sorry, but it feels like that, kind of!) and hold it while I take the meter in the other hand. And she's stuck between my knees, I kneel on the floor behind her. Getting the blood on your nail is a great way if you are better than me at that, I tend to smear it and then it's not thick enough.

What you described is my most repeatable method so far. When I have someone else home, holding him works OK but he gets the wiggles…

It’s a mystery how the tiniest drop of blood, so small it’s difficult to see and will not be enough to test, can with the casual ear flick transform my library (aka cat hospice) into a scene from Dexter. He will then smile at me and walk away

methos doesn’t mind the poke but does hate anyone touching his ears (always has) so I don’t touch until I’m poking and quickly poke, collect, let go. If testing left ear I tuck folded 2x2 under edge and hold it and ear w/my left, poke with right, drop lancet & pick up/use meter. If also checking ketones put down first meter to continue countdown, pick up second and collect blood briefly unfold 2x2 and fold back around ear to apply pressure. I push strips in before grabbing ear.
If I’m going to be fumbling around a bit once poked (eg I need to run a second strip because I doubt the result) I let go of ear but try to hold him (and that precious blood drop) steady by scratching under chin briefly as I fumble out a new strip and insert.
I admit being ambidextrous helps in this just as it makes it easier to assemble ikea furniture.
