She ate maybe 1/4 5.5 oz can of Salmon Friskies and is not at all interested in her dry this a.m. I think she is pouting, b/c I set the Friskies out first, med'ed her up, and now she acts like she's mad at me! About 15 minutes later I set the Meow Mix and the S/O out, she is sniffing at it but not munching down yet.

Otherwise, she acts perfectly fine, still skinny but putting on weight, she slept on the bed with me and 6 other cats last night, and she always comes running when I call her.

So I think she's just pouting! So Tawny-like.

Tawny - you're allowed to pout, Snowshoe says so....he's KING of the pout....but that doesn't include not eating sweet girl. You gotta eat your fuds and get big and strong like Popeye. Oh? Guess you're right, Popeye's muscles wouldn't look good on such a beautiful girl. OK, try on Wonderwoman instead. What? That's your bean? Guess you're right about that too...she's a pretty wonderful 'Wonder woman' too.

Aww Desi, it's so nice to be able to smile at a Tawny post. :-D

That's tellin' 'er, Tawny, we can pout if we want to, huh? First you make mama nervous by not eating, then eat a big bunch, okay ?

It might be working, thanks!

That drop from the AMPS of 317 to +2/228 really, really made me nervous. She was eating the friskies salmon when I hooted, so I figured it was OK to shoot. Then of course she ate 3 more bites and quit. I put a big bowl of water in front of her and that's all she wanted to do, was drink.

One of her scrips is for mirtazapine (the appetite stimulate) which she is supposed to get 1/4 tab every 3 days as needed, and was due last nite. But she had been eating well so I skipped it, then this morning I gave it to her about an hour ago. I only have 1/4 tab left, I'll call the clinic (LVRC) and see if I can get some more.

Anyway now she has just eaten about 1/3rd of a cup of Meow Mix, she is supposed to eat 1c a day per LVRC, but I actually let her eat as much as she wants right now, she had been eating at least that much & some s/o too since she came home.

I am gonna get another test in about 10 minutes.

Re: 11/25 Tawny AMPS 317; +2/228; +3/223;

Well when I went up to get the +3 she had dropped a little but not so much. Then she ate some more. Now she is drinking some more. I should have left out of here an hour ago. I will get one more test, a +3.5, in a few minutes, since she ate again.

She is going to spend the day in a bedroom with her civvie bro Rocket so she is not alone and all her 5 kinds of food (2 kinds of friskies, s/o & Meow Mix w/ & w/out dried chicken) she can have access to all day, otherwise all the other critters will eat all her food. Rocket cannot jump up onto the table (brain damage from a suspected fall years ago which caused damage to the--is it the hyperthalamus?-the part of the brain which controls eating-which causes him weight problems), so where her food trays are he cannot get to but they get along well and she won't be alone all day.

brb...test time.

I just posted her 11/25 p.m. update in her 11/24 condo! What a moron!

Maybe I need another beer, I've only had one!

I fixed it, took it out of there, put it here, I think this is the right one this time:

I don't like this # one bit, but her kibble bowls were empty when I got home so she did eat well today, and I don't know when her last meal was so this # probably has a kibble food spike in it. I don't think she touched her LC. I would like to try to wean her off the kibble and back to the LC ASAP but it is so important that she eats anything at all right now while she is still on the road to recovery I am at a loss as to what to do. She acts fine, is responsive, looks like she feel better.

The LVRC clinic left specific written instructions not to change her dose w/out speaking to one of her drs. first, but I am so tempted. They want her back for 12 hours 2 wks from her date of release for a curve and a check up, I can do the curve and told them I would but they want to do one of their own, and she does need to go back for a follow up visit. I have to take her down there early in the morning and leave her and then pick her up 12 hours later.

There was some question about the efficacy of her Lantus, even tho it had not been in use that long, after the first time she was in the hospital, even though I took it w/me & gave it to them for her they used their own while she was hospitalized the 1st time. Then when I took her back the 2nd time & her #s had spiked so bad after her 2 days home and they put her back on theirs they questioned, rightfully so I would say, the home lantus b/c she did so well on theirs. So when I got her home after the second time I started a new pen, but it was out of the same box, I can't help wondering...could the whole box be bad? It's not that old. She ran mostly in the mid 200s in the hospital according to the clinic. We always want to blame s/thg, don't we?

I am hooting by the pull the fur up technique we talked about in a few days ago condo, I am using the longer needle syringes the clinic sent home w/her, I can't figure this out. I will call the clinic in the morning and see if they will let me up her dose, I guess. It's too late tonight, I already hooted her prescribed 2u. She acts fine, haven't been able to catch a pee yet tho.

She ate good tonight at shot time, too.

I'm gonna go get me another beer now, and maybe some chocolate!

Hey Desi,
It will be OK. I can't tell you how many times I have doubted the efficacy of the insulin, changed out pens, only to have the same results with the new pen. As long as you are keeping the Lantus in the fridge at a safe temperature (beween about 35 degrees and 45 degrees F. (2 and 8 degrees C.), it should be fine. Don't forget that Tawny has been through a great deal in the last few weeks and it is not surprising that her numbers should still be elevated, especially if she is eating kibble. (It raises the bg and takes a long time to get out of the system.) Just keep doing the best you can and if you have a question about dosing, put it into your subject line so as to get some experienced eyes on it.

Get some rest, too!!

Hugs,
Ella & Rusty
