Ok, so I have a confession to make... I did go check out a few stores this morning. I was up an hour early, and had to drop off a sample off at the vet by 7:30, so I decided to go see if it was as crazy as I thought it would be.... It really wasn't bad. I didn't find any deals though. I am not looking for any big ticket items, and I don't have little kids to buy for... As for the rest of the family, who knows? I don't have any idea what to buy them either. It was starting to get a little busier by the time I decided to head for home for breakfast. Not sure what I will do with the rest of my day.
Mary - Zeus came to me pre-named. Now for the long story:
I went to the local humane society, and they had pictures with descriptions of their personalities. In his picture, he was sitting up, almost posing for the camera. He looked like a King.... and the name just fit. When we walked into the cat room, He came right up to me and started walking around my legs and rubbing his body up against my legs as I was talking with the staff member. I really felt that he chose me. Unfortunately, I couldn't take him home that day because I was going out of town for a conference the next day.... But I thought about him for that whole week. When I went back the next weekend, he was still there. It was fate. Unfortunately, they told me that a "cat cold had run through the place, and Zeus has a weepy eye." Because he was going to be an only kitty (at least initially), they said I could take him home.
In the first week, I had Zeus at the vet and/or the ER vet 3 times for his eye. He had contracted the feline herpes virus.... And had a big ulcer on his eye. Poor little guy, the vet sewed his eye shut for a week to help it heel. It didn't, so they sewed it up again for two weeks. Started him on a human herpes medicine that caused some internal bleeding. The ulcer still wasn't better, they said he would lose his eye and so I had to take him to a specialist in another State. Luckily, it had healed over the weekend, and when we saw the specialist, she kicked me out of the office (she was super nice, and did it jokingly). He really was a trooper through all of it.
Then we inherited my aunts cat, Smokey. Zeus was no longer the King, she wanted to rule the Kingdom. Most of the time, Zeus let Smokey rule... But he does stand up for himself from time to time. And they do play now and chase each other around the house.
Sorry to be so long winded there
