Yesterday: Tawny Condo 11/22/11

Good, her #s have come down, she was actually 281 @ PMPS +11. Then she ate a little between that +11 & her AMPS @ +12. She is still eating well on her own. She is drinking a lot of water, too, but yesterday her ketones were negative, I was not able to catch a pee this a.m.!

She is still eating the dry but did eat a small amt of LC wet this a.m. too.

Some pudding poo, tho, could this be her meds? What should I do about that.

Because of his long hair, I used the "pull the fur" method for BigMac. He posed for me so I could show how I hoot. You can see his skin and that is where I poked.

CD, thanks for the hoot pic yesterday, one ?: do you shoot toward your hand or toward the cat's head when you pull that fur up like that?

The antibiotics can cause pudding poo. FortiFlora or some other probiotic can help. The FortiFlora may have the added benefit of getting Tawny interested in her canned food. You can get it on-line at Amazon, PetFood Direct, or Entirely Pets.

Re: 11/23 Tawny AMPS 295

I was going to say FortiFlora, too. It will help with diarreha, and it helps to put the good bacteria back in that the ABs destroy.
My cats LOVE it!

Re: 11/23 Tawny AMPS 295

Hi Desi,
Fortiflora really works to help the cat have normal elimination when you are giving antibiotics. Along with the "bad" bacteria, antibiotics also destroy the "good" bacteria in the digestive tract, and a probiotic like Fortiflora puts those good bacteria back into play. (Alternatively, you could feed some plain yogurt with active cultures if Tawny likes yogurt.) Fortiflora contains "animal digest", which is what dry kibble is coated with (cats really like it, and the kibble manufacturers want to keep them liking that dry food). If you sprinkle some Fortiflora on Tawny's wet food, as Sienne suggested, it will make the wet food taste as good as kibble.

C.D.'s picture of pulling up Big Mac's hair to tent the skin is great. She sent it to me, too, when I was having problems with Rusty's long hair. To answer your question: you would shoot toward the front (head) of the cat, and try to keep the needle fairly parallel to her body. Pulling up the hair automatically makes the "tent".

Wishing you and all your kitties a Happy Thanksgiving,

Ella & Rusty

Hi Desi!!!! What a great report for our beautiful Tawny!!! So glad she is eating and drinking and ketones are negative!!! Super news!!

That's the way I shoot Gracie, too. I don't make a tent...just pull the fur up and back, expose the skin, and Voila! And she is short haired but she is oh so plush.

(((Desi)))...Happy Thanksgiving with your girl home!

Well, her BG is back up there again. I did the pull the fur up and hoot thing this a.m. and p.m. she is still getting 2u BID.

She is still chowing down on her s/o, then meow mix, but tonight she wanted her friskies wet lc first, i think it was just b/c Tinkerbell was getting some!

But Tawny ate about 1/3 of a can of the LC, then a bunch of the s/o, then decided to have the meow mix for dessert.

Meds are done for the day, we start over in the morning.

I think she is putting on weight thank goodness and she comes when i call her, is responsive when i talk to her, and acts like she feels better. she is drinking a lot of water.

she is bright and alert.

i will get some fortiflora and see if i can entice her back onto the wet food, but for now i am gonna continue to let her eat the dry b/c she needs the calories and the weight.

Have a good Thanksgiving, everyone.
