Georgia and Simon (GA)

Yesterday was quite the crazy day with Simon going down into the low 30's. He is bouncing really high right now but it is to be expected after all the HC foods he got yesterday. Simon looked at me like I was nuts this morning when he got his LC food. I'm sure he wanted to say,
where is my food with all the yummy gravy???
.

Sienne, thanks for pointing out that I made an error on my condo last night. I meant to say that I deceased his dose by .25, not 1/2 unit. That would have been way too much of a decrease.

Today is Simon's annifursary when he was diagnosed with diabetes. It has been 2 years! What a crazy sugar dance this has been and I want to thank everyone here on FDMB for keeping me sane and always giving me good advice. I am convinced that Simon would not be here today without your help. His previous vet initially started Simon on 4 units of Lantus with no testing. I got my glucometer and testing equipment from FDMB just in the nick of time. My first test of Simon showed he was in the 40's and it was almost time to give him the next shot of 4 units. Without testing and your advice, things could have gone terribly wrong. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Re: 11/23 Simon AMPS 335 Happy Annifursary

Happy Annifursary, Simon! Wow, Georgia, you certainly did get your kit just in time, didn't you. I bet your eyes almost popped out of your head when you saw that 40! A very good lesson in regards to making sure everyone tests their sugar cats, especially before administering insulin.

I bet Simon was really let down this morning when he saw his breakfast, lol. Spoiled kittens.....

Re: 11/23 Simon AMPS 335 Happy Annifursary

Morning Georgia and happy Annifursary Simon! Wow, what a crazy day yesterday with Simon dropping. So glad you made it just in time for dinner. I bet Simon clears the bounce. Simon, you sure did get a lot of gravy yesterday and all the good stuff. Have a nice, less stressful day, Georgia.

Re: 11/23 Simon AMPS 335 Happy Annifursary

I'm glad you got your Thanksgiving dinner -- Simon certainly wanted holiday foods, as well!! Maybe he was celebrating his annifursary a day early. (FWIW, Gizmo looked at his food this morning and walked away. He wanted turkey -- and not the kind that comes in a can.)

I suspect the numbers are more of a bounce than due to the HC food. The food works it's way out of a cat's system in an hour or two.

Re: 11/23 Simon AMPS 335 Happy Annifursary

Happy Annifursary Simon and Georgia!

Simon's story is similar to Stu's. It's a rude awakening when you discover that you can't always trust your vet (and feline diabetes seems to be the area that most of them are ill prepared to deal with).

Just read your yesterday's condo. Wow! Enjoy your bounce, Simon!!

Have a good weekend,

Ella & Rusty

Morning Georgia ~O) ~O) ~O)

HAPPY ANNIFURSARY SIMON!!!!

Your story sounds so similar to ours. Add three hypos to the scenario and I am so glad someone showed me the Board. I too have no doubt that Mannie would not be here if it were not for all you wonderful folks here. Enjoy this very special day. Celebrate well. I always do, since I like you, know we now have happy healthier kitties. Many congrats to you Simon.

What a ride for you yesterday. I am glad that you were able to make your family dinner, that all worked out OK. Congrats too on the dosecrease. I hope Simon will like the new one.

Enjoy your day today. I hope it is a good one.

Happy Annifursary! We're glad you're here and we feel the same way. Zener is thriving today because of LL and all the wonderful dosing experts, advice givers and all-around cheerleaders. Hope the bounce is a short one. It is hard to go back to LC after gorging on HC.

Re: 11/23 Simon AMPS 335 Happy Annifursary

Happy Annifursary Simon!! I'm sure he's wondering just where the gravy went and how to get it to appear again. Don't bounce too high or long Simon, sweet one.

Hope you have a nice calm day today

Re: 11/23 Simon AMPS 335 Happy Annifursary

HAPPY ANNIFURSARY Simon. Georgia, your story about the Simon's vet prescribing 4U BID without testing is scary. Simon is very luck to have a CT that loved him enough to doubt the vet's decision and do her own research. You are the one that saved Simon. I believe there are a lot of us on this forum that went against our vets recommendation and followed the advice we received here and our furry companions are all the better for it.

I'm glad you finally were able to get to your in-laws for the Thanksgiving dinner. I know you enjoyed all the more knowing that you stayed with Simon until he was out of danger.

Take care have a great day and don't let anyone steal your joy!

Re: 11/23 Simon AMPS 335 +5.5 200 Happy Annifursary

Well it looks like the bounce has cleared a little bit. Keep it up, Mr. Simon!

Deb, yes I did just get the hometesting kit in time. I really didn't realize how important it was to hometest until I saw the low numbers.

John, I agree that it is too bad that all vets do not advocate hometesting. Too many people just give up because of the cost of bringing their cats to the vet and paying for all those fructosomine tests.

Bruce and Devon, thanks for the well wishes for yesterday. It turned out to be ok but very scary.

Ann, I have taken your words to heart and am having a less stressful day. Pet food shopping and then relaxing!

Sienne, I think Simon did start celebrating his annifursary a day early with the low numbers. He knew he should get some turkey, just like Gizmo, and posting low numbers would really make it happen.

Ella and Michelle, it seems like most of us here had similar stories about hometesting and finding FDMB. I am so glad that FDMB came up alot when I was searching Google for feline diabetes.

Liz, gorging is the right word to use for Simon yesterday. He just couldn't get enough of the HC food with gravy!
And Mary, I really think he is still looking for that gravy today!

Re: 11/23 Simon PMPS 116 Happy Annifursary

Happy Annifursary Simon! :-D Nice blue PMPS, be cool and dont go diving to get more gravy!
Georgia, glad you got your home testing started in the nick of time :-D excellent reminder on the importance and value of home testing. Its hard to understand why many vets dont recommend home testing and some actually oppose it.

Re: 11/23 Simon PMPS 116 +4 52 Happy Annifursary

Oh my goodness...here we go again! Leslie, Simon didn't listen to you about the diving. I guess my sleep will be put on hold for a little bit longer.

Re: 11/23 Simon PMPS 116 +4 52 Happy Annifursary

Hapy Annifursary...looks like Simon want to celebrate some more with his MamaBean!!!
