Rose is being hospitalized for treatment of constipation. I expect her to be discharged tonight. The vet will be training me today to give enemas at home because this has been an ongoing and recurring problem.

Thanks for any advice regarding giving enemas at home. I know many struggle with constipation. Rose gets water mixed with her food which has been FF until this week when I used a list from @Alicia & Maggie to find single cans of LC / LP foods to try. Rose has been trying Weruva, Tiki, and BFF. For the last few months, she has had miralax mixed in with every meal. She is also taking Cisipride and recently started Laculose. Rose is also getting daily AB and SQ fluids to combat a kidney infection. We discussed starting Zantac (Ranitidine) as an additional motility agent, but haven't done that yet. I understand it is contraindicated by kidney disease.

Vet mentioned I should consider a prescription low residue food to minimize recurrence of constipation going forward (Hills I/D). Not sure if I should be looking at "as fed" or "dry matter" analysis, but it doesn't look low carb to me so I don't think this is a viable option:
Carb 7.1% as fed; 29% dry matter
Phos .21% as fed; .9% dry matter

% calories from: Protein (30%) Fat (47%) Carb (23%)

Yesterday.

I'm sorry Rosie is at the hospital, sending vetty vines.

I have no personal experience of caring for a kitty with gastric issues but here are some links that discuss treatment/management options.

Constipation, Maggie11 & Ann; Feline Constipation
Fortiflora
Hairballs/Chronic Vomiting
Probiotics in IBD (or other) cats
Probiotics, S. Boulardii to stop Diarrhea, Constipation & Flaxseed
Antacids (Pepcid)

I think the food will be high carb, you take the as fed values and then do the calculation.
But it's listed in Dr Lisa food chart, 23% carbs.

Sorry Rose had to be hospitalized. :bighug: No advice for giving enemas. I'll be interested to see what others say. I don't know if you've tried Natural Moves. It seemed to help Maggie, but it is bitter. Eventually she would not eat food with it mixed in. Someone here said they mix it with some water and syringe it down. PM me if you'd like me to mail you the remainder of the bottle I have, I'd be happy to do it.
Sending get well & regular vines for Rose. And here's a :bighug: for you too.

Thanks @Gill & George , @Chubba , @Alicia & Maggie , @Kris & Teasel , @carfurby. Rose is home. She is very happy to be home. Her food / shot schedule is all messed up, but it is good to be home. I know she is more comfortable here. Vet was great. I got lessons and "on the job" training that I will be putting into use tomorrow. Based on any progress she is able to make overnight, vet suggested that I should put my new found skills to work and give 2 enemas tomorrow - AM / PM.

While many will be celebrating Thanksgiving, I'll be focused on a different kind of "stuffing". :p

Thanks again for well wishes, prayers, and advice. I don't think I want to use the ID food - it is too high carb. I also should have mentioned I did try Natural Moves, but Rose didn't like it and I saw no positive effect in the LB department. She has had pumpkin in the past, but that didn't do much either. Vet has contacted my compounding pharmacy re: Zantac. Sounds like the appropriate dose can be compounded in a sugar free form after the Holiday - more to come on this after I talk to the pharmacist.

Happy Thanksgiving :bighug:
