We were having some discussion yesterday about whether I should keep shooting the drop or whether it's time for a food trial. Emma is just short of a green today, so I didn't shoot. By +3.75 she was at 77.

Frankly I still don't understand the practical difference between a food trial and going OTJ. Is it just a matter of terminology? Food trial appears to be to keep testing at AMBG and PMBG for a few days without insulin and seeing how things go. Is going OTJ just doing the same, but for a 14 day trial, begun only after we've seen a consistent pattern of mostly 50-80?

Maybe @tiffmaxee and
@Wendy&Neko
Could explain it to you about the difference between the food trial and OTJ Trial since I see they suggested trying the food trial in your previous post

Doing a food trial means you aren't officially on an OTJ trial yet. Sometimes it means doing a trial like you are doing, giving her a little insulin support when she needs it. Her numbers still aren't all under 100, so it looks like she's close, but may need a bit of support yet. Think of this as a trial for an OTJ trial. If you keep going without kibble, that may be the answer to what she needs to get all green.

Thank you! It sounds like the difference is a matter of duration and strictness. In an OTJ trial one wouldn't typically interfere in the 14 days with insulin, even if the numbers went up a bit. Whereas in a food trial perhaps she would get a drop if she seems to need a little help.

Whatever the case, things are looking okay for now! 86 PMBG yesterday evening and 104 this AMBG, with 67 @+3.5. I think I'll continue feeding no dry kibble, and shooting when she tests 120 and over. Maybe eventually I'll shoot if she tests 100 and over, so she really spends time in the green.
