Good Morning!

We had a lovely night, I finally got all her meds into her last nite, that was my first run w/that, and then we have only one more pill to go this morning! Morning dosages are a little easier than evenings, as some are just once a day, which is evenings.

She ate pretty good last night but totally chowed down this morning! She has 3 bowls of food in front of her at the moment, Friskies wet liver & chicken, Meow Mix dry & s/o dry. I know, I know, on the dry, but right now it is more important that she eats and we deal w/her diabetes w/insulin than that she only gets the LC wet, which she is minimally interested in sniffing but not at all in munching. She is getting the dry she got at the clinic, and she loves it. She is still pretty skinny, so she needs the calories right now. Her discharge ppr show that her BGs ranged from 112 to 400 during hospitalization, more controlled in 250 range over the last few days of hospitalization.
Here is her list of meds:

2u BID Lantus
Baytril 68 mg tabs every 24 hrs
Metoclopramide syrup 1.2 mls 3 times/day
Zithromax Oral Susp 0.5 ml once/day
Metronidazole Tab 50mg 2 times/day
Denamarin Tab 1 daily
Doxycycline 100mg tabs 1/4 tab every 12 hrs (follow w/5mls water)
Actigall 50mg 1 capsule every 24 hrs
Mirtazapine tab 15 mg 1/4 tab every 3 days
Famotidine 10mg 1/4 tab 2 times/day

LVRC was very specific about chasing any pill, not just the doxy, w/5mls of water so that nothing gets stuck in her esophagus. And they prescribed the Denamarin too.
That has absolutely got to be the best veterinary clinic in the whole country.

So we are doing good and eating well (Tawny is anyway!) and altho she appears kind of weak still (wouldn't you be after 2 hospital stays in 2 wks?) and is too skinny she does not appear to be depressed any more, her eyes are bright, she is swishing that magnificent tail around and exploring the house, all good signs!

Desi --

You may want to see if you can track down allergy formula Pill Pockets. The allergy formula (duck and pea flavor) doesn't contain any corn syrup and is diabetes friendly. It may make the pill process a bit easier. In addition, since the Pill Pocket is eaten, the bit of "treat" helps to get the pill swallowed.

What a great report! I'm so glad to hear she's home and happy to be there :-D :-D That's quite a list of meds! Poor Tawny and poor you.

Hi guys .. I'm so happy to hear tawny is home and eating well! The weight will come back but at least she is a happy little girl at home! My civvie twix LOVED the pill pockets .. So much easier to get her to take her meds with those ..

Hi Desi, I'm glad to see the good report for Tawny! Sienne's suggestion about the allergy pill pockets is a good one. I buy the dog version, it's less expensive overall. You don't want to use a whole pill pocket to give the pills anyway....it's like play doh, just break off a small portion and mold it around the pill. You want just enough to cover the pill....if you make it too big, Tawny may want to chew it. The smaller, the better. Some people give a few small pieces without any pills to get her used to eating it as a treat before giving the "loaded" one.

When you get a chance, can you please update Tawny's SS?

Hurray for a good night for Tawny!!!!! I'm so glad. Good luck with all the meds- that looks like lots of pill pockets for her! Goooooo Tawny!!!

Re: 11/21 Tawny AMPS 285

It's great to see a "regular" condo for Tawny. That is one looong list of meds! I'm so glad she's home and on the mend. Prayers are answered.

Tawny ate well tonight again, YAY! tho she is still not interested in her wet food. I put 3 bowls in front of her, s/o dry, Meow Mix dry and tonight was Friskies salmon.

She chowed down on the S/O (this morning it was the Meow Mix), sniffed at the Friskies a little, then switched to some Meow Mix. I don't care right now as long as she eats!

We have worked our way thru all but 2 of the meds, she got tired of being poked and prodded and syringed and pilled and me syringing water into her after every pill, so finally she jumped down off the table where all this was taking place with a meow, butt held high and tail swishing, and stalked (no, sashayed) off with a pout.

That's my girl!
