good luck today on your syringe quest. My Walgreens sells that same size syringe for about 25 cents more than Walmart, and is so much easier to get in and out of.

Morning Rebecca and Star! Nice job last night with testing and finding that pretty yellow! How is Star Cat doing with her canned food? Did you leave some out for her or give her that last night? Some balk at the canned and love their dry. I am so happy to hear that she is taking to it so well!
IO have to go to the counter to get the syringes from Walmart. Go to the display shelf and pick up a card...that show the
Reli-On 3/10ml 29 G 12.7mm (1/2 inch) needle syringes....and they will help you. The syringes are not usually out on the shelf. Good luck!

I did not leave food out overnight. I offered her more of the canned food just after her +2 check last night. She ate a little. This morning's AMPS is before food. She's too cozy to get up and eat. :-) Will offer her some now - I'm going for Saturday morning coffee myself! Have a great one everybody. ~O)

I see Pat uses a different Walmart syringe than me, my needle is 31G. hope we aren't confusing you too much.

Star Cat ate about 1/8 of her 3 carb food this morning. NO DRY FOOD two feedings now! :-D :-D :-D


Here's a question for you. What is the ideal # range you all strive towards? I see the colors on the SS. I seem to remember my vet wanting us in the 100-120 range. Are you all looking for lower numbers ideally? What range gets them "OTJ" trial?

Usually they go down in dose after earning the reductions with a <50 number. The doses get smaller and smaller until they are on a 0.1u dose. If there is green preshot numbers on that 0.1u dose for a week, they might go on a trial for OTJ for 14 days to see how they are doing w/o an insulin at all.
Sue is on a trial right now...you can take a look at his SS...and Savannah just had her OTJ party....check out her SS.
There are other kitties who have worked their way down to the 0.1u dose too and are coming up to being ready for a trial.

Well, you can look at my SS for Sue. He's in his OTJ trial right now. I like all greens. He's had 2 blues during the trial.

Hello everyone!

My supposed to be *easy* day went haywire with kid stuff!

I did not get to Walmart, but had to get to Target (where my test strips are) because I was almost out and did not want to be out. I talked to the pharmacist there and she is ordering my syringes!!! Isn't that awesome!? It really is, because Target is literally next door to work and close to home too! YEAH! They will be in Monday. (While I'm on my Target soap box, I should share with you that the Lantus was only $102.99 there, vs. 114.99 and 120.00 at the other pharmacies I called, so maybe that will help someone else.)

Star was 268 at the 6 hour. I decided to give her fat 1's for the rest of the weekend till the new syringes come in. I know she has a long way to drop still, but she's acting very well, 5P's I think it is called... :-D What do you guys say?

But maybe the best news.... she's doing great on her canned food! I must have hit the lucky flavor on the first try, so I'm sticking with that. Bought another dozen cans of it. And Benny can eat some too! :)

YES!!! on the canned food - how great is that? And very nice numbers today. Look at that 235 - sweet!

I am glad you found a source for your syringes that is close. Makes it nice.

Looking great Star!!! I hate to be a pest...but the fish ...well....they do love fish and for now maybe it's okay but I have heard that you should only feed it once each week. It can bring complications....so see if she will eat some of the other things like chicken and turkey, k? :mrgreen: I am thrilled for you that she is eating the canned.
Do you know how hard it is for many people to get their kitty to eat canned and give up the dry??

I don't know where you got the fish from, but she's eating beef. She isn't a big fan of fish, so we're ok there.

Just shot her a fat 1U while she's eating her canned beef dinner. Her PMBS was 246.

Will recheck in 2 or 3 hours and see where she's going.

To reassure you Pat, I just got the label. It's Fancy Feast Classic Tender Beef.

If I'm looking at the chart correctly, it's 3 carbs.

This is the only can she's tried and low and behold, she likes it so I'm keeping it! I purchased a dozen more. She's eating about 1/8 to 1/3 of the can each time.

She is truly surprising me as I never thought she would go off her dry this easy!!! :-D
 
Looks like the food change is agreeing with Star Cat. :mrgreen:

Get a couple more tests before bed tonight, ok? It looks like the food is making a big difference for her.
