Yesterday's Condo is here...

All Ps (except playing) in place today, and Sooty seems to be feeling a little less 'yucky' today - unless I'm imagining it (and, we did get a couple of lower #s from him yesterday...)

Still, today sees another Acro-style increase, up by 0.5u to 8.0u (Professional Driver, closed course - do not try this at home, non-Acro beans!)

ETA: For the first time, I split the 8.0u dose across 2 sites today - 4u left/front-side, 4u left/rear flank.

It may be yellow but it's early and he can go into blue!!! Hope he feels much better today!

I forgot to mention this morning (doh!) for the first time, today, I split the 8.0u dose, across 2 sites - 4u left/front-side, 4u left/rear flank.

Said to improve absorption. So, maybe it is working, as advertised...!

Hi Perry,

Didn't have a chance to tell you yet that i was saddened to see that Sooty got the Acro diagnosis, but I am glad you know the reason behind the difficulties with regulation. You are handling it like a champ!

Didn't know about splitting doses= improved absorption...will remember that if we ever get to super-high doses (my cat has also been quite resistant to insulin, but I am slowing down now with raising the doses because of a recent dental).

Good Luck with the dental. Big Kitty had a freak-out after waking up from anasthesia, but I think that is an extremely rare reaction. Hope Sooty's clean-up goes well, and who knows...maybe it will lower the numbers...(anti-jinx!).

I know several people have said splitting their large shots seems to help. I tried it once with Jazzy but got a fur shot on the 2nd one, so it wasn't much help at all. :lol: I should try again and see if she'll sit still. Nice day for Sooty!

I guess it's still better than a fur-shot for the whole dose..! ;-)
I'm mostly doing it to try and minimize discomfort, although anything that might make the insulin work better, would not exactly go amiss!

I don't know how well the splitting affects our numbers but I split both by bits of 4 or 5 u in each spot. Ollie's this am was 20u split in 4 spots. Shadoe's 10.5u in 2 spots.
I wanted to say that you can put the 8u in the dose field on your ss, then just put your 4+4 in the comments at the far right along with the location if you want. Once you have a dose like maybe 9.25u, that field would look a little weird plus it's hard to know exactly how much of the syringe is in each location.
The splitting shot is good to know but also the location of the splits is important as some give flank shots for faster absorption I think. I like the scruff as it's less upsetting for my cats because Shadoe's sides are too tight and Ollie HATES even being patted on his sides.
This morn, I split Shadoe's 10.5u in 2 locations, and Ollie's 20u in 4 locations.

You have some great yellows with Sooty; good luck with improved numbers, but don't let the acro tug-of-war discourage you. Always watch how Sooty's doing because Sooty will let you know how he's doing.

Good luck on the dose and hope you see some improvements with the splitting.
 
Hi Gayle, OK good advice on the SS.
Sooty is OK with me shooting in his sides, so Im shooting his current 8.0u in the AM, ~4u in left side front and the rest in left side rear (flank), PM, likewise but on his right side. He's fine with this, so far!
