Moey seems to have missed all the fun at the beach. He popped in a few times to see if that's where the party is! Oh, Moey. Blue looks good on you but, green is your color.;)
 
Lookin' so hot Moey!! I believe it's pretty normal to take a peek at the beach, because there's a big crowd there so often. Moey just had a quick huddle or two with some friends:cat: Easy and steady Moey honey - :D It's ok if you want to dip a couple toes in light green, but only toes and then get em' out!
 
So when are you going to reduce? That's the 4th time under 50...and he's a newly diagnosed diabetic.

There's a discussion going on on Mimi's condo today about this very topic. I was confused about her taking reductions when Mimi drops under 50 - however was reminded that it's for newly diagnosed diabetics that rule applies...not for long term...I'm still trying to figure out when long term is. I'm going to tag @Gill & George - so they can also get this part of the conversation. I hope you don't mind Briere. :)

I don't mind one bit if you tag Gill. We had discussed reductions the other day but, since Moey is approaching a 5 year diabetic I think he's considered long term. The drop on 11/18 and 11/19 were considered the same 24 hours per Gill. That one confused me. Then I looked at the hours and his first drop on the 18th was at +3. The second drop being at +12 on the 19th. If he could have made that second drop occur at +3 or beyond it would have been considered a different day. Hope that made sense cause it confused me:p
I think he can have his reduction now though since this one was considered the third drop below 50.

Ah ha! That explains it then! Well at least that part. I only looked at Moey's SS and saw that the numbers start in August - silly me! And overlooked the note at the top that says Diagnosed 2014, duh! For us older folks, maybe put it in the header as a BIG line item...or not...:facepalm:
You are doing such a great job with both your kids! It's just amazing how well they've done!

So, now I'm curious...where have you been all these years with Moey and his long term diabetes? How have you been treating him? I'm sure I'm asking you to repeat a back story from somewhere...I must have missed it...or in my demented state, have long since forgotten it...:p

I have to admit though, I could use a refresher course on when to take reductions - other than the most obvious - under 40 = reducie...trying to count cycles and what time something happened that may have resulted in a reducie or not - way beyond my comprehension at this point. And being distracted by that darn ole job...doesn't help at all! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Money although new to us has been diabetic for 5years.

The one drop under 50 is for newly diagnosed, under a year.

A long term diabetic takes a reduction for a single drop below 40.

If a kitty doesn't hold reductions well then cg can try 3 drops below 50 (but above 40)

A drop into 30's or lower is an immediate reduction.

Briere, you're just amazing! I am so impressed on how you're reigning in the BG levels of your kitty babies!! I hope we have another remission story (*anti-jinx*) on our hands soon :) keep up the good work :D

Haha we're all demented in one way or another:smuggrin: Well I'll try to make this a brief story. Moey was dx 3/15. The vet put him on NPH-N and I didn't question it. I was very ignorant until I found this board and the FB groups. I would curve Moey once a month and never did PS tests until he had a hypo episode. I began testing prior to shooting after that. I didn't have a SS until I joined one of the FB groups and downloaded the pirated SS from their files. Prior to the SS, the data I collected, although very limited, has since been misplaced. I didn't record PS #s. Just knew what was safe to shoot and went with it. Ignorance is bliss I tell ya:rolleyes: Poor poor Moey:oops: He was actually up to 5 units at one point. I was free feeding him HC dry food. I wasn't educated in the least bit about FD besides knowing the basics(I use to work at a vet clinic believe it or not!). So, when Ittle was dx...I was like this @#$* has to stop. Not 1 but, 2 diabetics! Nu uh ain't going to have this! I started researching and reading the files on this site before I joined. I was a lurker:p I joined the 2 FD FB groups and lurked some more. I saw the positive results peeps were having with Lantus and had my vet fax in a rx to Marks Marine. The rest is history as they say. I've been here ever since day 1 of our Lantus journey. I knew as tricky as Lantus has a reputation for, I couldn't do it alone. We needed support while on this journey. NPH-N is administrator friendly, so to speak. Very predictable and short duration. I never reached out for help while the boys were on it. Just didn't feel like I needed to.

Oh my goodness! Briere - what a tale of woe! We're all so lucky that you found the forum! And most importantly so are your furbabies! Doesn't it just make you want to create a PSA to advertise that the forum is here to help all those poor diabetic cats out there in the world?

I'm convinced that the pet food industry with their pitches of the dry food is the reason we have so many diabetic cats now - back in the day (yes, I'm old) we never heard of a diabetic cat - of course we didn't feed them any dry food either - but that was another time...and now we treat our pets differently...and in doing so (what we think is good for them) we're causing them more harm - how is anyone to know any better? At least the internet is here these days - and we can find help for our beloved fur babies...thank god!
