Day two on new dose

We are a little high this morning. Maybe we nicked a muscle last night? I've been good about not getting leaks, lately.

He lost a little weight this week, but has maintained the pound he gained. Not happy about the tests this week. I guess I have to remind myself he was feral before we took him in. Now that he is feeling better, he is misbehaving. He bit my mother the day before yesterday when she reached out to pet him. I can only assume he thought she was giving him food. He was smelling my fingers awfully hard after I ate a turkey sandwich yesterday. I cautiously pulled my hand away as to insure that he did not make lunch of them.

Yeah... I've been in cat rescue for years so it is nothing new to me to deal with cats who have been poorly socialized or not at all. We have patience. I feel worse for him than I do for us for the struggle. He went from being free to do whatever he wanted to being restricted by walls and being poked all the time. He is fed, warm, and he is getting healthier, though, so I imagine he will settle in when we all get used to things. He really is a sweet cat. He is just not used to all of this.

Re: 11/20 Frank AMPS 437 /+3 HI ugh...

Wow. I don't know what is going on. He hasn't read HI (>600 for our meter) since we started him on Lantus. As far as I can tell, we got a good shot this morning. Could this still be NDW?

Re: 11/20 Frank AMPS 437 /+3 HI ugh...

It looks like Frank is bouncing off of the big drop into the blues yesterday. Don't get too frustrated by the bounces. They'll begin to level out.

I suspect what you may find with Frank is that he will begin to realize that what you're doing is allowing him to feel better. This process of managing our cats' diabetes creates an amazing bond.

Re: 11/20 Frank AMPS 437 /+3 HI ugh...

Thank you, Sienne. I managed to get a ketone test and we are still in the negative so that is good.

Finally came down a little. Odd at +9. I am guessing this is part of the bounce?

Welcome to LantusLand! Frank is such a handsome guy, he's lucky to have you for a bean. Now if Mr. Liver can just calm down...

Sorry about the ugly numbers today, but it does look like he's starting to break out of the bounce. When Neko is high and when she first started getting low numbers, she became almost frantic about food and I got nipped once or twice. I learned to toss treats to her instead of hand them to her. Once he gets more used to lower numbers, Frank will calm down about food.

i agree - he's bouncing. he'll calm down. there's not really anything you can do about it, but it gets better. typically the duration of the bouncing gets less and less. when he had those great blue numbers on 11/18, he bounced high that night, but cleared it by the next day. then you saw blues again on 11/19, and he's bouncing from them.

fortunately, we make lantus dosing decisions off of the nadirs and basically ignore the high numbers. glad you got a ketone test, though.

i'd had punkin for 11 years before he became diabetic and he was the most gentle cat ever. but he nipped my fingers a couple of times when he mistook them for food! i noticed it was worse when his numbers were high.
