Well, the kenneling on 11/2 through 11/3 did not go well. We had hoped Zeke would adjust to being kenneled and hopeful that kenneling might be an option to once again give us an opportunity to travel (something my husband and I have enjoyed doing regularly). We've been having trouble finding a pet sitter to handle the injection and testing so when we found a cat boarding establishment that would actually do injections and testing we were thrilled. Unfortunately this trial did not go well.
Zeke had a good night the evening of 11/1. Here’s a recap:
PMPS = 298
+4 = 82
+4.75 = 63
+5 = 55
+6.25 = 64
+7 = 64
+9.75 = 140
When his APMS was 221 on 11/2, I was very hopeful he’d have some healing time the cycle of that morning. Unfortunately, the 1.5u didn’t seem to have much effect. AMPS = 221; +2=380. I really don’t think I had a fur shot but because of his numbers, I wonder if that was not the case. He did pull away as I was getting ready to inject but I could have sworn that I had not touched the plunger. I tried again and (thought) I had a good solid injection. Maybe I did and he was just bouncing from the night before. We dropped him off at the kennel at around 2:00pm, having not tested after the +2, figuring we’d give him a break.
We made a last minute decision to have the kennel only inject 1.0u the evening of 11/2 and morning of 11/3 because we got nervous that Zeke would not be monitored as closely as we would want. The PMPS they took was 538. They did not take any readings after the injection the evening of 11/2. When they tried to do the AMPS the morning of 11/3, Zeke went ballistic and tore up the kennel’s caregiver’s arm. They were unable to get Zeke to settle down and had to abort testing or injecting. We picked him up around 11:00 am at which time we learned of the trouble they had had and also that Zeke had not eaten much while there.
He still seemed very traumatized when we got him home. Unfortunately, we had no clue just how traumatized. He came flying out of his pet taxi, barreling down the hallway into the bathroom repeatedly running into furniture and the walls, as his legs gave out from underneath him. This was very upsetting to witness as at that point we felt we truly had an idea of just how traumatic the kenneling experience had been for him. To add insult to injury (literally), it appears he’s injured his back right leg from the whole barreling incident.
We’ve not yet tested him as we want to give him as much time as possible to recover before having to resume the testing, injecting drill. I am assuming that we should resume with the 1.5u that he was getting before kenneling. Is this correct? Is there any reason we would need to ease him back up to 1.5u since he hasn’t had a full injection since (possibly) 10/31?
