Aargh! This is not the day for this!

After being fairly steadily in the low 100s at PS for a while, I get an 82 at +12. With meter error that's not really far off from what I've seen before, but it makes me nervous. KR's going to a boarding facility today (her drop off time is shot +6...if I shoot) and they've already told me they don't test. I'd planned to reduce her from .5u to .25u for the duration of her stay, but what do I do now? Shoot .25u or don't shoot at all? KR's never boarded and I know she's going to be more and more stressed as the morning progresses, particularly when her carrier and my suitcase come into view.

Help!

Good morning. Wow, that is stressful. How about if you start off by stalling just a bit without feeding, and see if she doesn't come up into the 100s, or closer to.

You are going to give them an example syringe to compare every dose to, I hope. 0.25 is hard to measure.

I wish you had gotten a +11 so we could tell whether she was going up or down at +12. I'm thinking skip the shot.
You've never shot a green PS before and this is not the day to start. You have enough stress right now, getting ready, and she will have stress too.

If she's already eaten, we can't tell because of the influence of food on the BGs whether she was rising or falling.

All my thoughts, too. I really hope this is not an indication of how the rest of this day is going to go. It's a 3-hour drive to the airport!

For what it's worth, I looked at that 82 in the meter and my first thought was, "no way," so I retested. The second test (within a minute of the first) was 97. I don't know if I didn't have enough blood the first time (it was one of the smallest drops I've ever used), I'm seeing meter error, or she'd actually come up that far in one minute. I highly doubt it's the last, but I can hope...

I'm leaning toward skipping the shot, too. If I did shoot I can test this morning, but there's nothing I can do as what should be +6 approaches and we have to leave the house. Not shooting means her next shot will be given by the vet tech at the boarding facility...if she's calmed down enough to eat by then. I could scream.......

[edited to correct the grammar so it makes sense]

Glucometers are legally allowed to have a 20% variance in number, either way. So a reading of 100 could actually be anything from 80 to 120!

Christine, have a good safe trip, and I never did have a chance to read your other condo. Make sure to take KittyRabbits regular food and some high carb food marked with HC on it with instructions to feed it to her, if she acts different. Make sure they have your cell phone number, as I'm sure you already did.

I'm off.

Report back when you get home.

Hi guys .. no dosing advice from me unfortunately, but fingers crossed KR does well at the boarding facility for you .. have a great weekend!
