Gave 1/2 dose of 1.5 units last night and skipped insulin today for vet visit getting labs to check her T4 and others values. Checking if methimazole is improving her T4.

Tried to submit a urine caught yesterday at PMPS but they wanted one that hadn’t been refrigerated overnight, so I will try to get one and take it back to the vet’s office to submit :arghh:

Overall, Ivy did pretty well considering her disposition. They were able to get the blood they needed. She is home and sleeping off the sedation that I gave her and she has eaten the meal missed from this morning since she was fasted.

As expected, her glucose is not very pretty, her spreadsheet even has some pink on it (which I haven’t seen in forever) so that makes me unhappy, but it’s only one cycle so I have to just not beat myself up over it.

Hope everyone is having a safe day :cat:

Hi Staci,

so happy to hear everything went well! Ivy looks really like after a hard party night. But she will recover quickly and her bg too. She did so well the last times. Sorry to hear they didn't take her urine. The last times they did, isn't it? But maybe it is less stressful, if you just use the next good chance to catch it. I hope the vet is not too far away.

Hope you spoil yourself today somehow. You deserve it so much! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, she looks like she had a hard party. Poor girl. She let me brush her when we got home. She didn’t even fight me at all. She just went with the flow:rolleyes:

They seem to give me different answers every time I ask if it’s OK to store the urine overnight in the refrigerator and this time they told me it’s not great if it sits in the fridge overnight.
I think you get an answer which is different with each person you talk to.

I’ll just try to get a fresh urine in the morning (if I get lucky) and then I’ll run it over there. It’s about 15 minutes away, so not too bad.

I was surprised she bounced as high as she did this time. The last few times she never bounced up to pink and this time she did so not really sure why, but it is what it is. Hopefully she will come back down in the next day or so, and get back on track.
Thanks for checking in with us and I hope you and Binie are having a quiet relaxing night :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci,

poor Ivy. Had a rough day today. And you too. Good you managed to do the brushing, I can imagine that is also very complicated with her long fur.

My vet always says that catching the urine late in the evening before and keeping it refrigirated is o.k. I do it like you and try my luck in the evening to be safe and again in the morning to maybe get the fresh one.

I see she has nice blue numbers again. For most cats it wouldn't be surprising to be higher at the vet but I remember that Ivy likes to go low at the vet. I hope she eats well for you tonight.

Have a good rest and give lots of kisses to our brave girl Ivy! :bighug::kiss::bighug:

P.S.: Did you count the number of vet techs before and after they came back from the room with Ivy?

Hi Heike, although on a regular basis, Ivy won’t let me brush her. She must somehow enjoy it because she doesn’t even flinch when she’s sedated and I can brush her for a half hour straight and I get so much excess hair off on the brush. It was awesome:p

It’s interesting your vet tells you it’s OK to refrigerate urine overnight and then bring the urine. It seems we get different answers everywhere you go. Hoping I can get a fresh sample tomorrow morning and then I’ll run it over to the vet’s office.
Just what I need is one more errand when I really need to just be here.

Well, the good news was that the vet tech who took Ivy to do the labs returned with her. At least we know she didn’t eat her and she was still smiling when she brought her back.
She did say that Ivy tried to bite her but they just put a towel on her and she calmed down.

They seem to be able to manage her with new further sedation so that makes me really happy. And I asked them to do a blood pressure check, which they did so that was also good news.
Especially since my old vet office refused to do a blood pressure check and that’s part of why I switched offices.

You remember correctly that the last time Ivy went low a month ago was because I gave her a half a dose the morning of the appointment but was fasting her. That was not a good combination for her. I decided not to repeat that and that’s why I skipped the insulin entirely at amps since she was being fasted. While she was higher than I prefer she be, at least she wasn’t low at the vet and everybody having the stress of trying to feed her while taking blood. That’s not a good combination.
Tonight her appetite is not great and I’ve been having to hand feed her and she’s not really that interested in food so it’s been a little bit of a challenge since the insulin is kicking in and she’s dropping a bit. So I’m spiking her regular food with a hint of fancy feast just to entice her.
It’s nice and smelly, so that makes her interested.(I feel like I’m bribing her with McDonald’s food that you would give a toddler) ;)
