11/18 Templeton AMPS 368 video of deer & Temp

What a gorgeous backyard you have. Is Templeton a purebred? Any idea why he became diabetic?
Thank you. We are just renting but we lucked out and found a nice place in nature.
He has the temperament and looks of a purebred but I doubt it. He was a shelter rescue.
Our theory is perhaps from when he escaped the house and crawled under our neighbor’s house where there was freshly sprayed pesticide.
There is a highly engineered form of Pyrethrin that is linked to diabetes mellitus, which happens to be what was freshly applied.
No way of knowing though, it is what it is.

My Mocha looks a lot like him. She was also a rescue. She and her tabby sister were found on the streets so not purebred either. When I saw what you feed I wondered how he got fd. Mocha eats raw. She has skin allergies and I pray they will stay controlled as the medications to try if needed could make her get fd too.

Yup, similar to Mocha, I remember. Oh, he was on Royal Canin dry most of his life. Could have been caused by that.
In January he refused to eat it, so I started feeding raw, but prior to that his diet was 100% dry, sad to say.
Allergies are such a tough battle. Is hydrocortisone generally good enough to control it?

Right now I’m feeding only venison raw and she’s been pretty good. She gets an occasional breakout of dermatitis and EGC but not too bad. It might have been because I mixed up her food with her sister’s because I feed Chai lots of different proteins. I am not sure if one currently on her chin is acne or a scab from scratching. I’m watching it.

It’s so easy to mix up the food. I have like 5 types of raw in little 2oz portion cups, frozen in the freezer. I think I’m going to remember which one is which once I defrost, because I like to give him a variety, but they look so similar!
What is EGC? Hopefully the scab is just from scratching. I bet if it is from scratching, she will do it while you’re not watching :banghead:

EGC is eosinophilic granuloma also sometimes called rodent ulcers. She started getting them on her lips before she turned one. I had to stop feeding all the proteins she had eaten so she only gets one. I don’t know what I will do if she reacts to venison and I run out of novel proteins. My other cat gets variety. Once I mash them up they look the same and if I’m distracted or am talking on the phone when getting their food I sometimes forget which is which. I try now to always put her food on the left, lol.

Oh, just saw this.
I just looked up EGC, wow, that is beyond frustrating. Really hard to help them, and corticosteroids can bring on steroid diabetes argh.
Let's hope there is no shortage of venison in the future...
Maybe try different colored bowls? But let's be real, in practice that wouldn't work out lol.
