A quiet night for Harley - He was not crying and pawing at me this AM for food which is nice. Still pink but hopefully he will be coming down. Wrote a long email to the University vet and she actually called me about the problems I am having with my primary vet. Eva is so nice. When I explained that I needed to establish a relationship with a vet and Harley, she said she knew of one that works with diabetic cats. Eva will also be here for another 3-4 years working on her PHD so one of my worries is over. One way or another - I will have a long term vet for Harley.

Still no news on test results. I cannot believe that it takes 10 days to get the results back for the IAA. I hate to call again and get treated the way I was the last time....

Have a good day everyone.

Re: 11/18 Harley PMPS 360

I'm glad you found a vet your feel more comfortable with. I wish you the best of luck with Eva.

Now, come on down, nice and easy, Harley.

Re: 11/18 Harley PMPS 360

Thank you for your support yesterday Dyana. It was a bad day yesterday and I was not sure if I could continue with this. The vet did (like everyone here) let me know that what I was doing was ok and my "primary" vet was full of it. Eva said - shoot where ever works for me (with the exception of scruff of neck - too much fat there). So, today went 100% better.

My thoughts of yesterday - s--t I am a newbie again - are gone and Harley and I are moving forward.

Pattie, I think you're doing a great job! I hope you've found a vet that you will be comfortable with, it's so important to have a vet you can work with. Now Harley, please come down off the pink floor.

Re: 11/18 Harley PMPS 360

I agree, I think you are doing a wonderful job with Harley .. we all have our own bumps in the FD world to deal with and we just do the best we can with handling them .. so glad you found a vet you are comfortable with .. and I'm sure harley thanks you for not giving up on him! Now come on down harley and show your bean how thankful you really are! Have a great day guys!

Re: 11/18 Harley PMPS 360

Good post this morning Pattie....we do go through these ups and downs, but you sound so much better today.
Hey, didn't Perry & sooty have a big delay in getting the results too? It took them forever...as I remember, there was some problem there so things were delayed....maybe post and ask him....or I will look back and see if I can find what he said exactly.

When you get a minute, could you put a notation on your SS as to when you opened the vial? It is a good reminder (and it helps a SS reading crazy person like me to just see it and not have to ask...cause I am always looking at the age of the insulin...)

When you use a pen, you put the syringe into the rubber membrane at the end and withdraw the dose. Do not push any air or insulin back into the pen. It is not the same as a vial in that respect.
You do not need to roll the pen or anything like that.
As far as warming it....are you warming the vial???

With the analog insulins, you do not need to roll them at all...and should not roll the vial/pen. You may hold the end of the syringe in between your fingers for a few minutes to warm up the insulin a little after you have drawn the dose, but do not roll it... Many higher dose kitties use Levemir. Has anyone mentioned that to you? (Dyana and I use it...and I think the Perry & Sooty will be changing over to it now that the IAA has been confirmed for Sooty) The Lev seems to work better for higher dosed kitties...

((Pattie)) I hope you have a good day today .... hang in there!!

[drumming fingers]Cathy says the vets office called this morning, they have still not had results back from DCPAH but they promise that they will phone us just as soon as they do.[/drumming fingers]
just a suggestion...
your vet's office can call MSU to get the results. 517-353-1683

Here is the link to Sooty's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=29903 you can click on the links and read each day for the past couple of weeks to see what they went through. You will see the post above form Jill in one of the days.... The SS shows the blood was drawn on 10/25 at his vet office and the results went back there, their vet examined the results for a day or two...and then they gave Perry the results on 11/11. He had the IGF and IAA tests done....
He said there was a delay due to not have the right test tubes in the lab or something like that....so they might be behind schedule as they were for him.

ETA: when did you have the blood drawn? maybe make a notation on the SS to show when that was.....

Re: 11/18 Harley PMPS 360

I am warming the vial. A couple of times I have not warmed it and Harley jumps like he is shot...does not do that when I warm it. The warming process it that I take it out 15 minutes before shot and hold it in my hand for a few minutes. My sister (diabetic) used Lantus before she got her pump. She told me she use to put it under her arm pit to warm it (yuck). I have not gotten that bad.

WOW - I must have been tired this AM - called Harley's AMPS, PMPS. Tonight he is 342 after a surprise 81 at +8. I'm sure this bounce will last a bit. Have a good evening everyone.
