We are using a different meter as we are out of Bayer strips. Using Relion Ultima - usually about 15% higher than Bayer Contour.

11/16 Racci AMPS-149,+4-95,PMPS-99 Adequan-BG?

Happy Saturday,

This is the second time I'm writing this! I had my condo all ready, hit submit (or tried to) and lost my post! Very frustrating way to start the day.

Anyway, Racci is doing well today. For some reason she got an upset tummy yesterday afternoon and had a loose movement and lost her appetite but was better by nightfall. I played it safe and did not give her miralax last night which turned out to be the right move since she had a normal movement this morning. You never can tell with Racci. I did it once before and caused constipation. I gave her regular dose this morning.

Racci exhibited all p's this morning and woke me at 6am for food, then let me go bts after she took her poop and got cleaned up. She ate again at 9 when I got up so her AMPS was fairly close to food. She's taking her nap now and I'll be waking her now for a +4 so must go.

I hope everyone is well and Moonie continues to improve. TTYL!

Have a great day!
HUgs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144 New Meter

Hi Melanie, glad Racci is feeling better. Sending her tummy vines. I use the Relion Confirm as a back-up meter and to double check with a wonky number. I just ordered from ADW and hope it doesn't tke too long. Have a nice day.

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144 New Meter

Yay!!!! You got your condo back up!! Thought I'd answer here instead of Racci's condo from last night.

I would definitely get different syringes for the Adequan. I got the Monoject 30 gauge, 0.5 cc syringes and they're perfect!! Champ has been on Adequan since January, so almost a year. I was going to keep him at a once a month dose, but he didn't do well with that. He started getting limpy around week three after a shot. His vet told me it would be just fine to keep him on a once-every-two-week regimen forever so that's what I'm going to do. He tends to stay on an even keel with no limping with that dosing schedule.

I hadn't realized Racci was a long term diabetic. For sure, you definitely know your cat by now!! Sorry to hear about your pain issues. I would rather have pain from surgery, which will go away in time, than chronic pain that just goes and goes and goes.

Sorry about Racci's tummy issues....hope they've cleared up and he's back to his normal self.

Just a bit of info....I changed a couple few months ago to the Glucocard Vital meter from ADW (same as the Relion Prime from Walmart). The strips are $9 for 50 at Walmart...super cheap!! And the meter is very accurate and easy to use. If you need to save some money, this is one way to do it!!

Have a great weekend!!

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Hi Melanie, Glad Racci is feeling fine and all Ps, and nice green to top it off  I hope you are also feeling better from your bronchitis, sending you more recovery vines in case you need them.

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Hey, Melanie -

Sorry about Racci's tummy issues. Good call on skipping the Miralax! I hope she feels all better SOON!

NICE GREEN, Racci!!!

Have a great day -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Hi Ann!

The Confirm got good reviews. Do you use the Bayer Contour also? I was wondering how it compared. I'm also hoping it doesn't take too long to get Racci's. I usually order from fdmb/Amazon/& then use whichever of their sellers has the best deal that week. I usually pay about $17-$20 for a 50 pk. Have you found a cheaper source?

I think her tummy feels better. She ate lunch ok, thanks! I need to do the same. I'll talk to you later.

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

I just don't know what's going on here today. I just lost another long post!!!! Maybe I should just give up on long replies?

Patty, I'm glad you answered here. It's easier.
Do the syringes you get have the Monoject logo down the side also? If so, I'll try to find another brand that size. I hate that. It's so distracting when you're trying to measure but I'm definitely going to switch over instead of getting these again. Racci is very good about them but I hate putting such a big needle in her. I will also keep Racci on whatever dose she needs with the Adequan. I'll keep an eye out for that. She starts the once a week shots this coming week.

Racci and I have been at this since 09. She started on Pzi and at one time was up to 5u! I thought she would never see blue or green! It took us forever to get her down to 2.75u and to the good numbers she's been at. that's why I freak out at the thought that I had to bring her up so much already and might have to go more! She has a lot of complications too. Asthma, infections, anal gland problems, chronic constipation. I really doubt she'll ever go into remission but if her organs are protected Ill be happy. She's an old girl and needs them to be in good shape so just age has to be fought.

She seems to feel much better. She's her usual sweet self. She's napping in the big chair and when I pet her passing by and my finger touched her face, her little pink tongue came out and licked my fingers giving me kisses while her eyes were still closed and she snuggled back in further.

The Gluco Vital meter and strips sound like a great deal! Are they readily available online? Do they use a very small amount of blood? That's why I chose the Bayer. It uses very little blood. Being on disability and with all the expenses with Racci, I can certainly do with saving money! I spend a fortune on strips!

I hope you have a great night too!

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Hi Libby,

It seems to have turned out right with the miralax luckily. I hate doing that though because of the time I got her constipated that way. I never know which way it will play out. Thanks! I know that green is nice. I'm glad to see greens coming back. We have to get the old Racci back with all greens in her day. I miss that.

Have a great night!

Hugs to all of you and xtra ones to Hershey!

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Hi Leslie,

Thank you for the vines. I'm going to need them unfortunately so they will be used happily. I do feel a little better than yesterday though. I'm still just as phlegmy but my head is a little clearer, thank you. Racci is her usual sweet self and eating so seems to be over whatever hit her yesterday.

I hope you have a great night and give little Jasper some hugs for me! TTYL

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Hi Libby,

Those don't say what brands they will work with. How did you know they would work with the Relion? Do you know if they would work with the Bayer Contour? Thanks. I just paid $100 for 250!

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Melanie -

They are the strips I use with my Relion Contour. Someone on here told me about them initially, been using them for a while now. Wish I could remember who told me...

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Doug means the Relion Confirm. The Contour is the Bayer model. I used to use the Relion Confirm, but the Relion Prime strips is much cheaper than the Confirm. The Relion Prime is a relatively new meter at Walmart. American Diabetes Wholesale (ADW) sells the Glucocard brand meters which are sold under the name of Relion at Walmart. The Glucocard Vital meter, sold as the Relion Prime at Walmart, is a good meter and the strips are much cheaper than the Relion Confirm. You can order the strips through ADW, but are actually cheaper to buy at Walmart ($9 for a box of 50 at Walmart, $9.20 at ADW). The strips are interchangeable from the Glucocard Vital and the Relion Prime. Money is always an issue at my house and every little bit helps!!

Re: 11/17 Racci AMPS-144,+4-75

Patty,

I see what's going on now, thanks. So it's just those two brands that are interchangeable. That was Libby, not Doug, btw. I'll think about switching to the ADW. Relion has a very good reputation and if they're the same thing than that reputation should apply to ADW's brand. I hate Walmart and rarely go there but if I can get it online that will work. I see that ADW also charges shipping which adds a lot to the cost but it's still cheaper than what I'm paying if it takes a small blood sample.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Melanie, I'm just catching up on condos. I couldn't stay up last night. I think I did too much all week and didn't rest enough to get rid of the cold.
I'm using the Glucoard Vital (Arkay) as my prime meter. At one time ADW had an offer this free meter, along with a box of strips. I didn't realize it was the same as the Relion Prime though and the strips are interchangeable, thanks Patty. I have the Relion Confirm as my back-up meter to check when I get a wonky number to compare numbers. It's also a good meter. I buy the Relion Confirm strips at Walmart, as I don't need that many just using it as a back=up meter. The Glucoard Vital meter strips I buy at ADW, very inexpensive, buy 4 boxes, get 1 free, I think. Amy (Trixie) uses the same meter.
I hope you are feeling better. I started taking Sudafed (non drowsy), but it still makes me drowsy.

Hi Ann!

Can you compare it to any of the other meters like Bayer Contour or the old Freestyle Freedom lite or the Relion Ultima? (or even to the other one you use?) Is it higher/lower, need more or less blood, rough percent of difference between the meters? Thanks if you can it would be great. I'm thinking of getting one to save money on the strips. The contour strips are killing me!

I'm sorry your cold is getting worse. You better take care of yourself. The flu is supposed to be starting now and you need to have resistance to fight it off. Get plenty of rest and drink lots of juice so you can get some vitamins in you. I'm starting to feel better now. I think I turned the corner. I just hope I don't get sick all over again on Thanksgiving since now my DDIL is sick! She finally caught it again. It went full circle - started in her house and is back in her house.

Thanks for the info!
