We made it through the night! Thanks to everyone for helping this new bean and Mikey.

Just stopping in to say "Welcome" to LantusLand. You really got thrown right into last night, didn't you? You did a great job!!! We're looking forward to "seeing" more of you guys around here!!!

In a way I'm glad it happened right away. It made me more aware of how serious the situation can get and how wonderful this site is for help. On another level Mikey is "fully" integrated in with my 15. Two of mine are still hiss when he walks passed them. He just hated being in his "safe" room away from all the fun. Though front declawed he was still able to "scratch" the door all day/ night so I knew he needed to be integrated fast.

I did notice that right before he really needs to eat he is very "moody". He gets very agitated, growling, hissy. Then I feed him and he settles down into even sleeping. Is that a diabetic thing or just maybe hes character?

It takes a very special person to adopt a special needs kitty, so welcome to our new very special person! You surely endured a baptism of fire last night, but as you say, it was a learning experience. I hope the learning to come is at an easier pace for you!

It might be a diabetic thing. Unregulated diabetic are not absorbing their nutrition, and often need to eat more often or larger portions. My Ennis now insists on a fresh plate every two or three hours, even during the night. You will likely see that behavior minimize as you get Mikey into regulation.

Jennifer is fostering Mikey for DCIN...which also makes her a very special person!!

Mikey's Lantus schedule. From Sunday 11-13-11 Mikey was getting 3 units of Lanus BID no specific times. Monday 11-14-11 I started him at 6am with 1.5u and at 6pm with 1.5 units. I kept it like that until last night when I acidentally gave him a THIRD shot at 9:40pm. I gave him 1.5u this morning at 9:40. How do I get him back onto the previous schedule of 6am & 6pm?

You can safely adjust the shot tim forward by 15 minutes a cycle or 30 minutes a day. Any more than that and it will be like giving an increase because of the shed overlap. We try to keep as close to a 12 hour schedule as possible, but there is a little leeway of a few minutes.

Thanks Marjorie. I forgot to start a new thread today. There is so many new things I have to remember, not just with Mikey but with my other cats. I forgot that he was out and I had left the dry food out for my cats so of course he got hold of it. Luckily I leave very little food in the bowls. I took him to the vet today for a "wellness" visit. He seems to be ok. Will get the blood/urine results in a few days. We attempted to get his PMPS but the blood just didn't want to come out and he started to get REAL aggitated. We'll try to get one in a few hours.
