AMPS 333, 37th cycle @f0.75u, 1.4oz 8%

BIG excitement in the back yard this morning. Zener was a little restless to get poked and he wanted outside, so I let him out and he went TEARING across the yard. Uh oh. So I went tearing after him and heard some scrambling up a tree. I thought it was a cat but I got the flashlight and saw a young raccoon peaking around the trunk. He started coming down right away. Hope he learned to beat it when the porch light goes on.

Anne fixed our spreadsheet (Thanks, Christie!) so that the colors match a human meter even though we are using the Alpha Trak. The color ranges are shifted up by 30. So under 130 is green, 130-229 is blue, 230-329 is yellow, 330-429 is pink and so on. Sure makes us feel better to see better colors.

Zener is still high this morning but we think a little flatter. So we are looking at a dosecrease tonight. What is the opposite of a shave? Probably up to a s1.00u. Have a great day LL! Thinking of kitties and beans who are ailing, especially Jill and DH, Morgaine, and Tawny. REALLY glad that Garland came home quickly after her escape.

Good morning! Hope Zener comes down for you today! Skinny or fat doses. I can never get them right.

Good Zener on treeing that raccoon. Have a wonderful day!

Re: 11/16 Zener AMPS 333 A Trak

Good morning, Liz! This is the 6th cycle since the greens, so I would be on the watch for the bounce-clearing cliff dive this morning. If he dives at +1, try the HC then....you want to anticipate and feed the numbers to prevent the dive, not react after it happens if possible.

I see that you have started feeding at +1 sometimes, and I would continue to feed regular food at that time if he isn't cliff diving. Often, front loading the cycle with food helps even out divers. I thought you were already doing that, my bad!

BTW, I should clarify something here.....I'm not suggesting that feeding HC food is a great idea when trying to slow diving kitties. For Zener, I am suggesting it when he does the olympic dive because he already eats a higher carb food, so feeding a slightly higher carb food is HC. This is not a strategy that others should duplicate....please ask for help if you think you have a diving kitty.

As for the increase, let's see what happens today. ;-)

Hi Laurie, his +1 was down a little, so we thought we should check at +2 just in case he dives, especially since we wrote about a possible dosecrease. ;-)

No worries Laurie, we are still experimenting with finding the right food and timing. After our transition to wet food, he would only eat medium carbs, and it's been only recently he's started eating 8%. When we saw the small dip at +1, we gave him his regular 8% and decided to get a +2. He had dropped 50 in the hour, so we just gave him 17% and will check again at +3.

Thanks for that. If others contact us about their diving kitties from reading what we are doing with Zener, we should indicate in our condo it is for Zener only and to ask for dose help from the expert eyes, yes?

The big guy has a way of reading his condo and doing the unexpected! Thanks for your help!

Re: 11/16 Zener AMPS 333 A Trak

Too bad Jetta and I didn't get to see Zener's condo sooner today. She earned at least a silver medal in today's diving champoinships! But- bad bean didn't catch it early. Anyway, I hope Zener has a day filled with much preettier colors for you today!

Re: 11/16 Zener AMPS 333 A Trak

Zener, are planning a dive?? Wouldn't a slide be more fun? Drop on off in the blue/green area, no need for drama today.

Re: 11/16 Zener AMPS 333 A Trak

Thanks for stopping by Jaq and Linda, Zener listens to his LL aunties!
+3 259 - slowing sliding

Re: 11/16 Zener AMPS 333 A Trak

As always, I encourage anyone who thinks they need help to ask for it!! This is a busy forum, and speaking for myself, my time is much more limited here these days....if I don't see something in a header or a question mark icon, I may not have time to look in. I put the "disclaimer" in this condo today, because I don't want everyone to start feeding HC (or higher carb) to slow down dives....a FEW kitties may need this type of intervention, it's not a standard approach. ECID! It may not work for Zener either, it's an experiment. So, yes, if someone asks you about it, suggest that they ask for help. Front loading the cycle often works very well by itself, and that should be the first thing to try.

A slow slide is nice! :-D

Re: 11/16 Zener AMPS 333 A Trak

Hi Anne, what excitement with the raccoon today. Maggie has a raccoon friend here that she yells and screams at thru the patio glass. Was it the raccoon up the tree or Zener. Hope your day is going well.

That is good for us to remember! We are sure no dose experts and if someone replies in our condo, we can always remind them to put dose? and the question mark icon in their header. I remember when we were very new, someone writing that advice to us and we had a reply within minutes!

Thanks Laurie, he is sliding slowly so far today - wahoo! :-D Perhaps every day or two, we should add this to our condo so anyone reading will realize this is special for Zener. If the experiment is successful, perhaps we should consider adding a statement about this to our signature file, so it is there with every post. Does that seem reasonable?

Yes, Liz had a little too much excitement for that early in the morning! The raccoon was up the tree. Zener would like to be up the tree, but is not able to climb because of his cerebellar hypoplasia. It doesn't bother him one bit and he takes everything in stride. It is our first raccoon in our yard since we've lived here that we seen, so Zener was very intrigued. We've had skunks, squirrels, hawks, kit foxes and neighbor kitties in our yard but no raccoons.

+1 348, 0.4oz 8%

What a nice cycle this morning and a blue PMPS, so disappointed to see the 348 @+1. We realized he had been working on his first dinner for a bit, so it may have only been about 30 minutes since he ate when we got the +1, so paws crossed it's a food spike and not another bounce off today's blues. Time will tell. We opted not to increase this evening, since he seemed to be flattening out a little and we wanted to see if we could flatten the curve before fattening up the dose. We'll see how things look in the morning. Any expert opinion is welcome!

Re: 11/16 Zener PMPS 222;+1 348 A Trak

Thanks Jaq and Moonie for cheering Zener to the blues! We sure loved them, while they lasted, and paws are crossed we get "the blues" again soon! :-D Zener was feeling much better today, with significant decrease in LB activity. And he got some good exercise on the great raccoon hunt.

Re: 11/16 Zener PMPS 222;+1 348 A Trak

Lisa, I am reading Zener his condo right now, he seems like he is thinking on your instructions. Time will tell!

Re: 11/16 Zener PMPS 222;+1 348 A Trak

i brought a friend to look in on zener - he really liked that 222.

hope the frontloading tactic works and zener slows that zooming!

Re: 11/16 Zener PMPS 222;+1 348 A Trak

Julie, thank you and your friend for stopping in to cheer for Zener. We liked that 222 too. We're about to get another test in a few minutes and paws crossed no more zooming! nailbite_smile

Re: 11/16 Zener PMPS 222;+1 348;+2.5 311 A Trak

Well, he's come down a little.
@+2.5 311
Right now the raccoon is back in the backyard so there is great excitement. Liz and I have been out with the flashlight trying to encourage the critter to move along with a few well placed tossed pinecones. Zener is all puffed up, he does not like intruders in his backyard. angry(2)_cat

I'm sure our neighbors wonder what the heck we are doing outside in freezing temps, in the dark, wandering around with a flashlight. "Yep, there's those two crazy professors. No sense at all, out wandering around in the dark, messing with that cat!"

+2.5 311, 1.10z 8%
+4 254, 0.7oz 8%
+6 228, 0.4oz 8%

Not used to seeing cycles quite like this, no big dives or jumps, so we think the bounce off the last greens must be over. Zener's nadir was blues both cycles today, though he went back up a bit @+1 tonight, he's back to around PMPS @+6. We used the HCs this morning to front load when we got a 50 point drop at +2, and he's been eating his LC 8% all evening. We're wondering if this bounce is over. And if so, should we go with fattening up his dose? Or should we wait another cycle or two to be sure no more bounce? Would love expert eyes!

Off to bed here now, gotta get our rest for Bink's OTJ party. It will be an all-nighter! ni ni LL! I-) I-) I-)
