Morning all! Kit's been having some pretty good cycles (knock on all the wood), and that at least makes one less thing I'm worried about.

I do have a question about vacation doses. I have two different weeks coming up that I'm uncertain how to handle. One is Christmas - I'd like to go home and see my family. Taking Kit would stress her out a lot - car rides are super rough on her and it's a 12 hour drive. I used to do it all in one shot, but the last 5 or 6 years I've split the drive into a couple of days, and that's harder with an animal.

The other event is a conference in March, which is in Seattle (I'm from Wisconsin). That would be a Tuesday through Saturday thing. I'm scheduled to be on a panel (which is a new thing and terrifying - hello imposter syndrome), and going would be great for professional development.

I'm pretty certain my bf could give her insulin (although I'm less certain about his ability to do so on a 12 hour schedule since - love the dude, but man does he love his sleep). I don't know that he can test. He's scared of hurting her? Of her freaking out? What do folks do in these situations? I didn't have do deal with this the first go round because she was only on insulin for like 7 months, and most of that was during the first part of lockdown. Thoughts? Thanks for any assistance!

This is why I barely leave for more than a few hours. Forget travel for me :banghead:

I see your dilemma. I agree that Kit cat will be better off staying back.
If your sleep-loving BF can consistently give her one shot in PM, maybe to hire a pet sitter to come for the AM shot?
Some vet techs do that sort of things on a side as well - talk to the vet clinic to see if anyone would do that?
I'm sure there are experienced people in this forum who can offer more suggestions.
I would be curious to learn as well!

The first go round I never left (which was aided by the lockdown). This time, it's not going as fast, and there has to be a workable solution for me to still do the things I need to do. I'm still working on what that means, and I second guess it a lot. I also may use her as an excuse to not have to go places more than I should. :joyful:

I may have to shift her shot times to make it more amenable to his schedule - currently he's not always home at her pm shot time anyway, so that would need to shift later, which might help with the early morning shot? I know there are folks who come in to do shots, but she's so skittish around everyone that I don't think they'd be able to find her without waking the boy up, so it becomes moot. We don't even know if she'll let him do it (although she is good for him when he puts the transdermal gaba on her ears). The other hiccup to someone like a vet tech - Kit's vet is a one woman show - she sometimes has a vet tech, but because she cut down on her hours when she found out she had cancer (she's in remission, and is doing well), they don't last long because they don't have as many hours to make money.

I'm sure it'll all work out, and neither time would be for longer than 4 or 5 days, I just worry about setting her back, especially since her numbers have been looking good.
 
Well I hate that PMPS. Note to self, stop tempting the world by saying things, there's not enough wood in the world to knock on. :rolleyes: (I know it's low yellow, I just thought we were on a dose that maybe was gonna keep her in the greens and blues.) She also puked right after I tested her at +6, so she might just not be feeling very well. Tomorrow is a vet visit, and we'll get her Solensia shot, a claw trim, and bloodwork.
