Hi there

So today I had to take DoDo back to the vet to check on his e-tube as well as figure out if we were going to remove the tube while I was out of town.

My main concerns were as follows:

1. My mom is not very coordinated and I was concerned about her changing the bandages
2. DoDo could hide and my mom's disability would not allow her to get on the floor and get him out (Fixed this situation for the most part by removing the slats from my mom's bed frame and setting the mattresses within the frame on the floor)
3. What would happen if we removed the tube and my mom could not get him to eat?
4. How would my mom be able to successfully give him his antibiotic without the tube (he is not very friendly with oral medications)
5. I dose on a sliding scale and I had already made pictures to show her what I mean by 2.75u of insulin on the syringe
6. DoDo has been more stable but when he goes low I was concerned about her actually being able to get up at night to deal with it on her own
7. On my work trip, I will be in continuous meetings and will not be so easy to grab to get dosing help.
8. My mom would feel horrific if something were to happen to DoDo while I was away

My vet thought that while on the antibiotics DoDo would be okay with the tube in place but she was also concerned about how I dose and having my mom do that, plus the bandage changes, etc without having the experience to do that.

She then mentioned that the 24 hour hospital does offer medical boarding for approximately $70.00 for 24 hours (35.00 a day and 35.00 a night). I talked to my mom on the phone while they were examining DoDo in the back with his e-tube and just re-wrapping. My mom said she would prefer to do the boarding that way all of us could rest somewhat easier.

My vet asked for me to prepare all of his meds (insulin, antibiotics, syringes), his food, e-tube pads and collars, and directions. So I will be dropping DoDo off late tonight. He will be in the hospital from Late tonight, all day Tuesday, All Day Wednesday, All Day Thursday, and Friday day. I guess I am looking at $280.00 if he is perfectly fine and does not need any new scripts (or if something happens).

My vet said they will probably feed through the tube the first few days just to make sure he is getting in all of his calories. She wants my shot schedule and I am okay with her keeping him less regulated than I do-- since I know they are not going to test him all day.. I would like him to stay below 250.

But all in all I think it is the best situation for me and for Dodo and my mom. Less stress and if he starts to go downhill he will be in a place that can take are of him before he gets to a crisis point with a very expensive treatment needs.
