We spent a significant amount of time yesterday cleaning up diarrhea from floors, litter boxed, and Jill's butt— which she DOES NOT LIKE ONE BIT!

Still having diarrhea today but we started metronidazole yesterday so I am hoping it will clear up fast. Trying to figure out when I can get a probiotic into her because the timing with all her meals and meds is complicated. I wonder if I should give her probiotics all the time?

She’s not really eating her post PMPS snacks and she’s dropping. What can I do to prevent something dangerous? I just gave her some hc but she licked some of the gravy but not much.
She has a uri we think and is in Clavamox and metronidazole. i added a probiotic this evening. She ate her PMPS ok. do i give her some Karo to prevent more
Dropping?

I would stop the Clavamox. Ruby reacted the same way to it, with poop everywhere, not eating well, and after I stopped the Clavamox her URI went away in a day or two after. Now it's in her chart at her local vet to never give it to her.

Also, I give Ruby a Visbiome probiotic every day, ½ capsule in her food twice a day. You have to work up to the right dose, as too much too fast can cause gastric distress. She seems to do very well with it after being on it for the last 9 months.

What can they give Her for a uri instead if she stops it and is still sick? She’s so stuffed up and definitely feels like crap.

The diarrhea is most likely caused by the Clavamox. I have several cats who get explosive diarrhea on Clavamox. Metronidazole is good for diarrhea but won’t do much good if it’s being given concurrently with the Clav.

Really? Why can’t they be given together? Just because the Clavamox makes the diarrhea so bad!

And yep. Karo if they won’t eat and you need to bring them up. It was my Go To solution. I usually mixed karo and water 50/50 and syringed in about 1.5 cc of it.

Well yes you can give them together but I am just saying that if your cat has a bad reaction to Clavamox then the Metronidazole probably won’t be able to overcome that - since Metronidazole is an antibiotic that also has anti- inflammatory properties in the gut it is frequently helpful for diarrhea caused by a bacterial problem or inflammation. But it will be hard to overcome the Clavamox causing diarrhea if your kitty is one of the cats who cannot tolerate it. A different antibiotic should be considered. What is she getting the antibiotic for? Sorry I missed that.

I have used L-Lysine. It can’t hurt if they’ll eat the powder in food or eat the treats. It is for URI symptoms caused by herpes virus infections. Won’t help with other causes, but it’s harmless if it doesn’t help.

The vet thinks she has a uri. She has been coughing and stuffy the last week and the vet saw her on Thursday when she was all snotty and teary. She said maybe it could be a sinus thing because it was all happening one one side.

Herpes would mostly be eye oozy stuff right? Jill definitely is stuffy and coughing. Like post nasal drip.

Poor girl. I hope that will go away quickly. Talk to the vet about it and see if she will change antibiotics. I would try the Lysine too.

Maybe a nebulizer with an antibiotic would be helpful. I did this with one of my cats. I bought a nebulizer which has a little chamber that holds a liquid antibiotic. I put Ginger in a carrier and put the nebulizer cup on the door of the carrier and covered the whole thing with a blanket and turned on the nebulizer and left her in there for 15 minutes while she breathed the medication in a mist. She tolerated it really well. But your vet may have other suggestions.
