Hi Michele :-D Hungry, purry is wonderful. Let's hope he settles into this dose soon. I am currently looking for some 'anti bounce' shoes for Crushy and Twice to wear. Oddly, there is nothing on ebay. But I have numerous other sites to check. Wish me luck! :-D

Hi Michele,

I'm glad Crushy saw blue yesterday, even though it set him bouncing again. I notice that his best string of numbers so far was when he was on 2 units, so if I had to guess I would think he's probably getting close to a good dose now. The idea is to get him there, but hopefully keep him flatter this time around. You're making good progress with him.

Since you seem to like to study and understand what you're doing, I wanted to show you one of the best spreadsheets for what we're trying to accomplish: Ronnie's Luna. I realize that the dose is much smaller than Crushy's, but I like this spreadsheet because the data is so pure (and plentiful - Ronnie really indulged us by testing a lot, and she kept great notes). Luna's food change occurred on 11/7/09. Before that, you can see that he was diving much too low on just a drop of insulin, yet couldn't maintain numbers in the normal range without insulin. Ronnie was feeding 0-1% EVO. We had her switch to Wellness that was probably 4%. You can see what a difference it made for Luna. Most cats are not nearly as sensitive as Luna, so most cats probably would not even notice a difference between 1% and 4% food or between "some" insulin and none, but for some cats those little changes can mean a lot.

thats a really interesting SS Libby, thanks!

Im still reading it but is there any particular reason she is feeding mini meals at +9? is it good to do that when they get closer to going otj?

hi michele!

yes. when a kitty is receiving a very small amount of insulin and is close to going OTJ we'll sometimes suggest feeding a mini-meal around +9 to stimulate the pancreas and the body will make it's own insulin. it works in most cases by pulling down the preshot numbers. ps numbers are often the last to come down.

i realize it remains difficult to see high numbers, but overall, crushy is definitely headed in the right direction! always remember... this is a process.

ETA: oops! edited to clarify and i see libby is on the board...
thought she went to bed.

wow you guys really got this down to a science!

It is hard to see the high numbers but Crushy has been acting like he's feeling good! He spent about 25 minutes playing with a piece of plastic on the kitchen floor tonight. I havent seen him do that in a long time. So Im focusing on him looking better instead of the #s for the time being. And I feel so much better just having a PLAN in place too. I can see the path better so that helps a lot :-D
