AMPS of 486.
Hypothesis testing time: If the elevations are due to the addition of the Purina Pro Plan (6% calories from carbs), then offering Spitzer a shot at straight PPP should bump him up and he should need more insulin to compensate.
So he got that option for breakfast, and ate about 1.4 oz of straight PPP, as well as some of the Sophisticat blended with PPP. And was dosed with 2.5 units PZ to compensate.

Sophisticat Turkey And Giblets Dinner
37% calories from protein
62% calories from fat
0% calories from carb
Pro Plan Adult Turkey & Giblets
55% calories from protein
39% calories from fat
6% calories from carb

Yup, he's staying high. Gave small bolus of R at +4.5

Now if not feeding the mix takes him lower, and both situations provide reproducible results, then we know the carbs are the cause.

I was running into a problem with inappetance and was attempting to perk up interest in eating.

If I have to adjust the insulin level to accomodate food he will eat, thats what I'll do.

6% isn't terribly high, but when the "norm" is zero, I would think that to Spitzer, 6% might feel like candy. It will be interesting to see a positive result that you can attribute to carb sensitivity. That knowledge may help other people struggling with the same problem.
